Y'all had better ratify this, or I might just have Fremont annex the whole of Atlasia and set myself up as Eternal Prime Minister and Author of Constitutions (Yankee can be John Bercow).

Does this allow a possible recast of an absentee vote in the regular vote?
(maybe the voting booth is not open for absentee voting?)

AS I said at the time I would have prefered to keep this section of the constitution short. Instead of having an undeniable right and the list all the exceptions, don't mention undeniable right (which is what is causing problem), state a basic qualification to have the right to vote like a number of days registered in Atlasia and could add that for ballot to be valid must abide by electoral legislation and list all the different rules and possibilities in regular legislation, instead of the constitution.

IIRC, the Absentee Ballot Act has a clause that says if you post a certain amount of times during the voting period, your ballot will be discarded, which would probably let you cat it during the normal period if such a thing happened.

two is multiple, it is for the same election so to save the thing would probably claim the period the voting booth is open is only the regular voting booth.

Not sure I would buy that since all ballots are cast in a voting booth.

Does this still allow prohibiting campaigning in the voting booth?

Only the people of the regions, can keep the Senators honest. Wink

I am hessitant to pressure the Senate in my capacity as People's Speaker, but we do need to get people engaged in what the chambers are doing. I think if people had noticed, that amendment would have never passed. Perhaps more petitions are necessary like the one on Glass-Steagal.

When did this amendment passed? It is important because in the northern region if it passed Thursday the vote should start only in a week.

I think it's the same for Fremont.

Goldwater assembled the signature and sent it to the regions Thursday. In this post, NCYankee says it can be close tomorrow (Thursday), time expires tomorrow (Thursday).

It looks like it was passed on Thursday.

It passed whenever the administrator closed it. My statement meant that it could be closed early but that time expired a set date listed in the Noticeboard (don't remember offhand, but I can look it up it is 72 hours after it started). Regardless of time having expired or not, nothing is official until the administrator certifies a given result. I merely posted the current total and signed off on it, so as to avoid delay in transferring the Amendment to the regions for ratification.

Goldwater closed it at:

Then shouldn't the vote be delayed for a week?

If that is what the Regional statutes and constitutions say, but that is a determination for the regional authorities to make.

Due to the unclear legality of the vote, and the fact that this would ban prohibiting voting booth campaigning, I have decided to Abstain on this question. I cannot vote against voting rights, but I cannot support this exact language.

I would encourage you to consider voting for the Amendment. It doesn't actually ban prohibiting campaign, it just maintains the status quo on that question. But the other provisions are just as important and everyone of these problems came up during the October 2016 election fiasco. This is the second attempt overall to get this through, the first one having died in the Senate when I was President in February. At least in adopting this amendment, we can solve 3 or 4 of the 6 or 7 problems that came up as it pertains to voting rights. We already amended the constitution to clarify how runoffs are handled and I signed bipartisan legislation to preserve the independence of the SoFE.  This is the last remaining hurdle and it has been thwarted so far for the past 8 months.

My hope is we could pass a subsequent amendment that fixes the problem of campaigning in the voting both, and this time I am going to have Truman on the damn thread daily and PMing the hell out of the Senators and Representatives, even if I have to chain him to the floor of the chambers for the duration of the debates.

Article V, Section 10 of the Lincoln Constitution states:

"All referendums on referred legislation, proposed amendments to this Constitution, and proposed amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Atlasia shall begin on the first Friday following their passage by the appropriate body; but if the passage shall occur on a Thursday, the referendum shall begin on the second Friday following passage"

So Poirot is right - if the Voting Rights Amendment passed yesterday, it should be voted on next week.

Passage of the amendment was certified on June 22, but the actual fact of passage was achieved on June 21. Per established precedent, it is the latter date which is used in determining the proper time for the opening of a referendum.
