I really don't see the point. His district isn't THAT safe, but it's at least reasonably so. Other than "desperately seeking attention", I don't know what do say.

Hmm, well I don't think it's a terrible strategy. Perhaps he's banking on enough frustration with Trump that some people will throw money at literately anyone announcing they're running against him. I think he should have gone with a more aggressive roll out for this strategy to really be effective, but he still may raise a surprising amount as the first one out of the gate, merely as a sign of Democratic frustration.

Nicely put.

Do you guys think we could get Delaney to do an AMA on this forum?  I mean, if we can get Mark B. Graham and Darryl Perry on here, then surely the sky's the limit?

My hunch is that the US Election Atlas forum is currently one of the world leaders in Delaney 2020 media coverage.  Surely, no other online venue has printed more words about Delaney's candidacy today than we have.  So I think he owes us.

What's an AMA, and where can I see one conducted in the past?

a AMA is a ask me anything where people get to ask a person some questions that they answer
here's bernies on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/IAmA/comments/36j690/i_am_senator_bernie_sanders_democratic_candidate/

Here's the one with Mark B. Graham:

Way too early. That looks unprofessionak at all. Nobody should announce until mid or late spring 2019. Actually I think presidential contenders should actually announce by fall of the previous year. Primaries should also not begin before March.

Maybe he just wants to retire, but instead of simply not seeking reelection he wants go do down with a bang, since he doesn't have anything to lose?

My guess is he's using this stunt as a springboard for a Senate campaign when Cardin retires.

Delaney says "I don't consider myself a longshot."

Well there you have it.

I was thinking the same thing. He could still use the money he raises for that. Or even for his House seat. Too lazy to check whether he's any good at fundraising.

Rather interesting and no one since James Garfield has been directly elected from the House.
