If a third party had miraculously won the election (it obviously was never going to happen), what would the predominant attitude have been by the two major candidates' supporters? Disappointment that their candidate lost, or happiness that the other guy didn't win instead?

That might depend on which third party candidate won.

There were a lot of them.
For example,
Castle, McMullin, Kotlikoff, Bradford Lyttle, Frank Atwood, Soltysik, Hedges...
and a few others as well as NOTC (NV) and write ins (many of whom may have
been for Sanders)
Since one could argue if one wanted that all so called "third party" candidate had about a zero chance,
then they all had an equal chance, since, as you may know 0=0.

If everyone who didn't vote had voted for the exact same "third party" candidate what would the map have looked like?

If the third party candidate was Kasich or Bloomberg then the Never Trump voters or reluctant trump supporters are most happy.

Clinton supporters upset Clinton lost. She was supposed to be the first female President.

I clicked Clinton supporter happy Trump lost. I thought it was how we personally would have felt. I like Hillary but anything to avoid Trump.

If you give every hypothetically eligible person who didn't vote for Trump or Clinton to the same third party candidate, you get a landslide:

Thanks RI. Of course, there are two big problems. 1. Finding a unity candidate that everyone could vote for, which seems improbable. 2. Getting non-voters to vote for any third party candidate in the first place. Many would fall into the "lesser of two evils" trap, even if they voted. Many non-voters don't really want to vote anyway, perhaps, so all of these is unlikely.

However, since most people don't pay attention to what non-voters think, you don't see much discussion of how unpopular the two party duopoly really is. I like the map. Smiley

I would love to see what Nevada has, NOTC, because not enough Nevadans vote that way, probably because it is a swing state. If you had NOTC in places like CA, OK, and AK you might see more protest votes. If there were enough people willing to protest the status quo. However, this isn't going to happen, right?

Really? Bloomberg agrees with Hillary on virtually every single issue with a few exceptions. I can't see how any #NeverTrump Republican would be happy if he were elected president.

None of the above. Johnson voter; I'd be shocked, of course, that my candidate won (and surprised Clinton didn't win, as I was IRL).

I'd look forward to more productive discussions and less division at the national level, and of course I would be eager to see how Johnson works with a Demopublican/Republicrat Congress.

Depends on the third party but I would assume both types of supporters would be upset regardless since the person they were supporting loss
