I mean, only the first group even exists, and their numbers are pathetic.  If you're asking me if George Aiken or Harry Byrd would like Trump more, then Byrd.

Well, i am aware of some rather progressive Republicans on municipal level (like former mayor of San Rafael Al Boro), but - not higher. Even relatively moderate Republican legislators (like anti-Brownback group in Kansas legislature, or New England social liberals) are, usually, of  no more then "somewhat-left-of-center" type, because of at least some fiscal conservatism. The same with conservative Democrats (in inverse). If we take, say Barbara Bollier (one of the leaders of moderate Republicans in Kansas) vs. Mike Danahay (rather conserative Democratic legislator from Louisiana) - then Danahay, of course. Historically? Jacob Javits (or, even better - Stanley Isaacs or Peter Behr) vs Larry McDonald??? McDonald by far.
