Nixon and his "secret plan" to get out of Vietnam was pretty funny.  George H.W. Bush and "no new taxes."  Clinton thinking he was the second coming of Franklin Roosevelt.  Just to name a few.

Wilson "He kept us out of war". The only man he kept out of war was Teddy Roosevelt.

He did keep us out of war.

Never made any promises as to what he'd do come March 1917, though...

(War declared, what, less than 6 weeks after his inauguration...)



Right.  The slogan was "he kept us out of the war", not "he will bring us into the war."  By  the end of 1916, it was pretty inevitable that war was on the horizon.
