So not only has Christie salted the earth for Republicans with his unpopularity and lack of real attempts to rehab his image, but he has drained their resources to pay for his personal stuff, including his failed national ambitions and court costs.

I almost feel sorry for the NJGOP Tongue

This is why Guadagno has zero chance of winning. I think she's trying to keep herself above 40%, honestly.

I know American political memory is remarkably shorter than other countries, but I have a feeling that Christie has hurt the NJ Republican Party significantly and his legacy will haunt them for a long time.

Bombastic Bob is a massive FF who didn't close down a bridge or destroy a state party. Bombastic Bob has also not been convicted yet.

I guess that's what happens when you run on a fluffy, good feelings message "stronger than the storm" and people find out there's nothing fluffy or feel-good about your administration.

Christie (and Trump to an extent) are just ruining the GOP in New Jersey. 2018 could've been a GOP Senate pickup for the first time in decades, but not anymore.

Not even Thomas Kean, Jr. will be able to win in 2018 thanks to Chris Christie.

That fat f*** needs to go off into the wilderness, but he is too much of a narcissist to even think of doing so.

For the last time, Tom Kean Jr. is not going to win a Senate race in any plausible political climate. It's an uphill battle for any GOP candidate, and Kean is not as talented a politician as this forum makes him out to be.

And anyway, he needs to get re-elected first in a district that Hillary won 53-44.

He was polling ahead of Menendez for much of 2005 and some of 2006 until Bush's popularity tanked

The political environment has changed dramatically in NJ since 2005, and has made it very close to impossible for a Republican to replicate that in the foreseeable future.

Also, 12 years ago most voters knew of Kean's father and thought of him as a solid governor, and Kean Jr got a big bounce from that. Now, most voters under 40 don't know who Tom Kean, Sr even is. So the son loses that kind of advantage now compared to '06.

I think he could end up doing more damage to his state party than Rod Blagojevich did to the Illinois Dems, and that's saying something. But it's also possible that their impending pension/budget crisis will be blamed on Christie's successor.
