For starters, trap has two meanings:
-A transgender woman
-A feminine/androgynous-looking, generally young, man

And as in almost any group, there are gay, straight, bi, pan, ace, etc, people in both of these groups

"Trap," the way I always understood it, is a person (generally male) who purposely feminizes their appearance and uploads pictures of themselves with the intent to deceive straight men on the internet looking for girls to talk to or fap material.  In other words, traps are not transgender and do not identify as such, although in the vast majority of cases they are gay men.  This was common practice during the golden age of 4chan (circa 07-08... right before the value of anonymity began to decline in importance among /b/'s community).  4chan's audience is and has always been predominantly male, which is why there was skepticism every time someone posted there claiming to be female.  At the same time, these idiots assumed that every "real" girl who posted there was just using their gender to gain attention on a message board where the vast majority of users were men.  So if you were a woman there you were automatically taken to either be a gay guy attempting to "trick" straights or a desperate girl hungry for male attention.

At one point it got so bad that every post in a rate/selfie thread that contained an image of woman would get a line of replies inquiring, often creepily, whether the subject was, in fact, female.  This happened around the same time /b/ started its devolution from a place of innocuous internet horseplay to a bland social networking site, before becoming the irrelevant, meaningless dump it is today.

(on the other hand, if you're born with a penis and sexually enjoy other penises and somebody refers to you as gay (in a non-mean way) I don't see how you could possibly get offended, no matter what you dress like.  You can correct them with the proper term and if they keep doing it for whatever reason, then yeah, they're an asshole....but to jump to offense seems silly and unhelpful.)

Is a MTF trans person, who's attracted to men, gay?  I would say No.
Is a MTF trans person, who's attached to women, gay?  I would say Yes.  (In this sense, I would say Lesbian, but in my mind, that's more or less the same thing.)


I originally understood the question to mean, are trans people part of the larger "queer" movement?  To that, I would also have to say Yes.

Back in the late '90's, I was involved with the local chapter (in southwest Virginia) of PFLAG.  The chapter president at that time was the mother of a transgendered child, and the issues she had come to terms with were in many ways similar to what the parents of gay children were going through.

Overall, gay issues and trans issues feel the same to me, even when there isn't perfect overlap.  In particular, the debate over the current hot-button trans issue, that of restrooms, sounds to me exactly the same as the debate 25 years ago about how horrible it would be if straight soldiers had to shower with gay soldiers.

In Islam, you're not allowed to eat pork, except if you genuinely don't know that what you're eating is pork. The same concept applies to traps. If you didn't know, it doesn't make you gay.

Even if you do know, traps and regular girls look almost identical anyway, especially in anime.
