June 27, 2016

“He wants to do what?” Attorney General Loretta Lynch asks into her cell phone. “He wants to come aboard the plane and chat? Does he not know how bad that would look if it got it out? No way! Tell him no and get me to my hotel as fast as possible!”

July 5, 2016

At around noon FBI Director James Comey submitted the FBI’s recommendation that the United States Department of Justice file no criminal charges related to Hillary Clinton’s emails as is the typical protocol of the FBI.

July 7, 2016

A joint statement from the DOJ and FBI is released stating that the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s emails has been closed.

July 12, 2016

Attorney General Lynch and Director Comey both testify to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee about closing the investigation. Very few highlights come from the hearing.

July 25, 2016

On the first day of the Democratic National Convention polls started coming in to judge the effect that the Republican National Convention had on the overall race. While it appears that Donald Trump had received a small bump, he was still behind Clinton by about 3-points.

August 4, 2016

With all of the post DNC polls now released, Hillary Clinton had a commanding 10-point lead over Donald Trump.

Clinton’s lead over Trump had receded a bit since the post convention high of August, but she was still up by about 5-points. Trump tries to attack Hillary on the email scandal, but the attacks fall flat. Every poll after the debate showed that the public thought Clinton won the debate overwhelmingly.

October 6, 2016

NBC News guarantees their source that they will be releasing the Access Hollywood tape and the associated story, but they want it to come out next week after the second debate.

October 7, 2016

Relatively slow news day as most coverage is previewing the upcoming second debate.

October 9, 2016

Hillary again is viewed as the winner of the second debate, but by a slightly smaller margin that the first debate.

October 11, 2016

NBC News is told by their source that they will give the Access Hollywood tape to another news outlet if it is not released by 5pm ET the next day. NBC guarantees their source it will be the lead story on NBC Nightly News the next day.

October 12, 2016

As an exclusive story, NBC Nightly News leads their broadcast with an Access Hollywood recording of Republican Presidential nominee Donald Trump having an extremely lewd conversation about women. Trump would later release an apologies video that night, but his attempts to redirect to the Clintons was seen to be in poor tastes. Dozens of Republican leaders unendorse Trump.

October 19, 2016

Going into the final debate, Hillary Clinton was leading Trump in the polls by almost a 12-point margin. The Access Hollywood tape ended up being one of the major topics of the third debate. Trump was ready for the topic and ended up handling it relatively well. Polls still showed that Hillary won, but it was closer then the previous two.

October 26, 2016

FBI Director Jim Comey learns that FBI agents investigating Anthony Weiner’s sexting case discovered emails between Huma Abedin and Hillary Clinton. Comey decided to follow typical protocol and not inform Congress or the public of this news until they had a chance to review the emails. Attorney General Loretta gave the FBI the resources it needed to review the emails before the election.

October 28, 2016

Relatively slow news day going into the penultimate weekend for campaigning.

November 6, 2016

The FBI concluded based on their review that the facts had not changed since their conclusions expressed in July.

November 7, 2016

The day before Election Day Clinton’s lead had dropped a bit since the peak she had after the third debate, but she was still up on average by about 8 points and leading in most of the swing state. Trump spent the final day of the campaign crisscrossing the Midwest, with events in Iowa, Indiana, Michigan and Ohio. Hillary however had big rallies that exceeded Trump’s for that day in Arizona, Georgia and Texas.

As someone else stated, I feel like this is what really happened and we're just living in a timeline

Everyone lives in a timeline, there's a timeline where Trump won all 50 states, Clinton won all 50, etc, we just got stuck in this one, there is no event that "really" happened, since they all happened in one TL or another.

I really do love these "what if everything was.....normal" timelines. Maybe this one'll throw a wrench in or something which should be fun. This seems like a high quality TL!

Brian Wiliams: Looking down ballot, we can project that Patrick Leahy will win his eighth term from the State of Vermon. Also at this time we can categorize that the Georgia Senate seat is Too Close To Call, but Isakson is leading. The Indiana Senate race is also Too Close To Call, while the Kentucky Senate Race is Too Early To Call, but Rand Paul is leading. Finally, we can declare that Senator Tim Scott will win a full term as Senator of South Carolina.

Vermont - Senate

South Carolina - Senate

Rachel Maddow: Also at this time we are categorizing the Indiana and Vermont governors races as being Too Close To Call. NBC can confirm that John Gregg is running far ahead of Hillary Clinton in Indiana while Phil Scott is running far ahead of Donald Trump in Vermont. The question will be if both can overcome the negative coattails at the top of the ticket.

Brian Williams: We will be going to a quick commercial break before coming back for poll closings in North Carolina, Ohio and West Virginia.

Brian Williams: We have hit 7:30 on the east coast and that means that polls in three more states have closed. At this time NBC News can project that Donald Trump will win the State of West Virginia. Also at this time NBC is categorizing both North Carolina and Ohio as Too Close To Call.

West Virginia - 5 EV

Also at this time NBC News is projecting that Senator Rob Portman will serve a second term out of the State of Ohio as he defeats Ex-Governor Ted Strickland. In North Carolina, the Senate race between Senator Richard Burr and Deborah Ross is being categorized as Too Close To Call. In West Virginia there is a Governors race and we are currently categorizing it as Too Early To Call, but Democrat Jim Justice is leading.

Ohio - Senate

Trump: 24
Clinton: 3
