Atlasia participates in South Korean lead preemptive strike with the assistance of Germany and the U.K. -Strike is mixed result but places the world on the edge of war
Today the Atlasian military with the support of the Uk and Germany participated in a South Korean lead preemptive strike in hopes of destroying nuclear weapon reserves and crippling the North Korean military ahead of a rumoured possible attack by the Republic within this month. Leaders of the UK, Germany and South Korea have gone on record as calling the strike a much needed step towards fighting a potential imminent threat. The strike itself is considered a mixed bag, while the strike managed to destroy a few military bases many million equipment were noted to be missing from many of the bases and many of the possible weapon reserves appears much emptier then many intelligence officials have seen from earlie. We should note that North Korea claims that they still have access to roughly 75% of their weapons as operational.

Aftermath of the North Korean Preemptive Strike- Cho Pu Il "this means war"
North Korean leader Cho Pu Il responded to today's North Korea preemptive strike with a brief but defiant statement " Today four countries participated in a action that not only violates are countries sovereignty but is something I very much consider an act of war, something that will not be ignored. We still very much have control of most of weapons and are fully prepared for military confict. This is something that has been true for moths, but today I can say the time for a diplomatic solution is over and instead this means war." While world are unsure of what forum a possible military response might take, this is the clearest sign yet that we may very well be on the verge of another Korean war.

The Kremlin released a much less defiant statement today calling out today's attack as a violation of a countries basic right to sovereignty and warning that major consequences will be levied on all countries involved. Meanwhile the Chinese government in a statement said that today's attack was a unnecessary violation of the spirit of sovereignty that every country has a right to, adding that today's action will be met with a swift and clear response in the coming days.

We will update you as more updates are coming in the next few days.

Anti-government protests largely peaceful in Saturdays Nyman Protest
Over 700 Protestors marched in downtown Nyman Saturday in front of both the Whitehouse and Atlasia Capital demanding greater activity from Atlasias politicians including the President himself. One young man from Maryland that we spoke to said he was "disgusted" and "repulsed" by the amount of absences in the last session of congress as well as what he called a "concerning amount of inaction from the Whitehouse". For the most part protestors focused on activity but a few including a middle age factory worker and self proclaimed communist from Kentucky started a small protest outside of the west wing of the Whitehouse calling the president a "neoconservative shill" and "a disgrace for workers everywhere". Protests while remaining peaceful for the most part still included a few altercation as  17 were arrested and 5 were taken to hospital as a result of injuries sustained during the protest.

Hurricane Report
Floodwaters from Harvey have receded almost entirely in the affected areas of Miami-Dade,
Broward, and Palm Beach counties.

At the moment, the estimated total cost of damage from the hurricane amounts to 97 billion dollars.
54% of this figure is insured. The storm damaged roughly 140,000 homes and destroyed 23,000 others, including 80% of mobile homes in the three counties most affected by the hurricane. Over 70,000 businesses were damaged or destroyed.

Receding floodwaters have uncovered a slew of new confirmed deaths, bringing the death toll of the hurricane in the United States from 27 to 40.

Russia and China will defend North Korea in a war scenario while both push crippling sanctions on Atlasia and others
After much speculation China and Russia are set to support the Republic in an impending military attack  on South Korea. China has committed to sending ground troops to fight along side North Korea troops as well as pledging "to fight" any country that chooses to invade North Korea. China however is not believed as wanting to use nuclear weapons unless absolutely necessary. Meanwhile the Kremlin is preparing to supply North Korea with weapons durinig any upcoming million altercations.

Meanwhile China has pledged to block trade with Atlasia, South Korea and the EU ( otherwise the regions that supported last weekends premptive strike. ) Russia will do the same as well as baring citizens from the countries involved in the premptive strike from working in Russia.

STFU on strike but close to deal
The STFU are getting closer to deal after day 2 of write to work has concluded. The teachers union has been getting involved with intense talks with the Southern Government in recent days sources close to the negotiations say. So far Mark Day has said talks have gone well but has stated that a few details still have to be ironed out and those could be deal breakers. Day also added he would hold a vote on authorizing rotating strikes on the last weekend of September if no deal is reached by that point.

The situation in the Pacific has certainly gotten very serious, very quickly. We can only hope the administration and officials in the State Department are prepared for what is to come.

Their will be several updates tonight on the North Korean crisis as well as today's French Presidential Election. However to get started the STU has ratified the tentative deal with the South reached earlier this week 92.5%-7.5%.  This means write to work will end tomorrow and teachers and the region will have five years of stability. We can report that many parents are increasingly happy with this development that their will be no class cancellation due to labor unrest.

Russia signs deal with Atlasia to end trade sanctions and remedy Russian Ukrainian crisis-The Ukraine furious

In a major deal with the Kremlin and Atlasia; Russia has agreeed to pull out of both the North Korean and the Ukrainian crisis (withdrawal of troops in eastern Ukraine, an end to weapon supply to North Korea and removal of all sanctions placed on Atlasia) in exchange for Russia being able to keep possession of Crimea, removal of all sanctions placed on Russia in the last few years, and equal partnership with Atlasia on nuclear inspections.

Russia hailed the deal as a strike in the right direction in order to repair a years old broken relationship between the two nations stemming from the Cold War.  Putin stated the decision around Crimea demonstrates the west is finally accepting the will of the people adding that withdrawing from the Ukraine was the best for both countries.

The Ukraine is said to be angered by this weekends major deal, with one source saying the Ukrainian government sees it as a betrayal to not only the Ukraine but democratic values as well.

French Election Results (Round 2)

Philippe, as expected, won a landslide victory in the second round of the French election, winning by a larger margin than Macron had in the election earlier this year. Polling prior to the election suggested that less than 5% of Ferrand's and Cazeneuve's voters and less than 12% of Melenchon's voters would transfer their votes to Le Pen in the second round. This held true in the election, with Le Pen gaining less than 6% from her first round total and losing every region and department.

Breaking News: China reaches landmark agreement to fight against North Korea

China and Atlasia have reached a major agreement that will significantly change the dynamic of the current Korean War. China has agreed to drop the trade sanctions the country placed on Atlasia earlier this year and will help fight North Korea beside Atlasia and other western allies. Atlasia however was forced to give up major concessions to make this deal work. These concessions are as followed:

-Atlasia will supply 30 thousand ground troops to help fight North Korea
-unilateral free trade between China and Atlasia. China would be the one benefiting from this agreement.
-Atlasia disarms 35% of its nuclear weapons
- Atlasia stays out of Asia conflicts in the future as long as freedom of the seas to maintain
-Atlasia contributes 300 billion to help rebuild North Korea
-Atlasia supports removing the current leadership in North Korea and helps transition the country into a western nation.

IOC moves Olympics out of PyeongChong after under construction Olympic village attacked by North Korean military
The IOC has officially decided to pull the 2018 Winter Olympics out of PyeongChong after the Olympic village was attacked by North Korean military aircraft which nearly wiped out years of construction. An IOC spokesperson said the decision to pull the Olympics out of South Korea was not an easy one but one that was made with the best interest of the safety of all athletes as well as the practice questions of how quickly facilities could be repaired or rebuilt.

The IOC will hold a vote on October 21 on where to move the Olympic Games to, and will accept emergency bids up until October 3rd. The IOC is mainly looking at countries that have recently hosted the Winter Olympics as being candidates to hold the Winter Olympics in 2018.

Shinzo Abe calls for snap Election for October 10th in order to gain greater mandate to repeal article 9 of Japanese Constitution

Japanese PM Shinzo Abe has called for a snap election in order to increase his Liberal Democrats standing in the Japanese Diet. Abe attempted to push through a repeal of article 9 previously in a attempt to allow the Japanese military greater flexibility in their ability to go to war but that attempt was filibusterd by opposition parties.

Currently polls show Abes party taking between 290-330 (ldp currently hold 290 seats) seats in the diet which would amount to anything from essentially the status quo to a modest gain. However on the question of article 9 Japanese residents seem split with 37% support repeal 35% oppose repeal 28% are undecided.

It's possible that I may have to alter my unemployment formula a bit, because I was not anticipating Mr. Reactionary to introduce 55 pieces of legislation in the South over the past week and a half, which is negating the rise in unemployment that should result from Irma.

-From the earlier attack on the Olympic village in Pyongchang South Korea; 77 people have died and 185 injured. These are preliminary reports and he subject to later update.

-North Korea attacked a Naval base in Guam destroying several of Atlasia navel ships. One report estimates that upwards of 65% of the ships from that base are now unusable. An estimated 55 proof have been killed and 72 have been injured.

-South Korea has bombed a nuclear power plant in Northwest North Korea crippling the countries nuclear weapons production as the plant is noted for being responsible for upwards of 75% of the country's nuclear power generating capability. An estimated 35 people died in the attack with another 16 people injured in the attack.

-South Korea bombed a major postal centre in the middle of Pyongyang North Korea. The centre is believed to be responsible for handling upwards of 70% of the country's mail and packages. An estimated 43 people died and another  23 injured in the attack.

Atlasia faces potential government shutdown and credit downgrade without full time budget

The Atlasia federal government faces a potential government shutdown as a key fiscal year end looms on September 30th 2017. Without either a budget, interim supply bill or extension of the fiscal year Atlasia will have a government shutdown. This means that thousands of government employees could be temporarily layedoff, government buildings closed to the public among other things.

S&P has stated that they will downgrade Atlasia credit rating to AA from AAA without a full time budget by October 31st 2017 and to A by December 31st 2017 without a full time budget. This is in response to Atlasia not having a budget for some time and being desperate for a financial plan.

The North Korean Conflict: A Visual Guide

9/4/17 - President Goldwater launches a joint attack with the UK and Germany against North Korea, seeking to take out potential North Korean nuclear sites. The attack targets missile launch sites at Tongchang-ri and Musudan-ri, as well as suspected sites at Punggye-ri and Chonma-san. Attacks were also carried out on airbases suspected to house dangerous weapons, such as Kaechon and Pakchon. The attacks were largely unsuccessful, as many weapons had been moved in anticipation of an attack.

Fig.1 - Sites attacked during the Goldwater Strike

9/10/17 - As urgent negotiations take place between President Fhtagn and the Chinese, North Korea begins artillery bombardment of Northern Seoul and strategic locations along the DMZ. Citizens in Seoul take cover in underground tunnels and artillery bunkers, while some are evacuated South.

Fig.2 - Selected locations of North Korean M240 and KOKSAN artillery pieces along the DMZ.

Fig.3 - Range fans of the artillery pieces labeled in Fig.2.

South Korea is quickly able to determine the location of hidden artillery units and employs counter-measures, destroying many artillery emplacements with counter-battery fire. Meanwhile, North Korean forces move towards South Korea. Due to the geography of the region, North Korean troops are funneled down three avenues of approach to Seoul.

Fig. 4 - Avenues of approach to Seoul

North Korean ground forces, including infantry and armored units, cross the border of South Korea and head toward Seoul. Heavy casualties result from strategic placement of anti-personnel mines along these routes, stalling the army.

9/11/17 - After days of Chinese refusal to accept Atlasian concessions without the additional guarantee of Atlasian neutrality, China finally agrees to aid South Korea in the fight against North Korea, as described earlier in the Atlasian Star. Upon hearing this news, North Korea commences indiscriminate bombing of both civilian and military targets in South Korea.

9/12/17 South Korea continues to cause significant damage to North Korean artillery units. Meanwhile, North Korea successfully bombs the Olympic village in PyeongChang, which was to be used in the 2018 winter games. The North Korean ground forces that were originally on their way to Seoul are successfully forced into retreat due to the geographical superiority of South Korean defenses.

9/14/17 - China and South Korea commence bombing raids on North Korea, crippling strategic power plants and communications towers. North Korean airbases are also attacked. However, South Korean losses are incurred due to extensive anti-aircraft emplacements surrounding major cities and bases.

Fig. 5 - Bombing sites, as of 9/17/17. Red=NK, Green=SK, Yellow=China

Fig. 6 - North Korean anti-aircraft emplacements

9/16/17 - South Korea successfully bombs the nuclear facility at Yongbyon, crippling North Korea's nuclear capabilities. South Korea and China also bomb numerous North Korean cities, including Ongjin, Gariwon, Pyongyang, and Haeju. Mobile South Korean artillery units are able to eliminate numerous AA weapons along the DMZ. Meanwhile, North Korea, in an act of desperation, successfully bombs Naval Base Guam.

Flipping China like that seems like a huge foreign policy win for Atlasia. Apparently we went from near nuclear war with the Chicoms to the Chicoms doing the heavy lifting in transitioning N. Korea into a non-nuclear western style economy.
