The Ukraine pushes sanctions on both Russia and Atlasia while violent protests break out in Crimea

The Ukrainian government has pushed major sanctions on Atlasia while increasing sanctions on Russia over the last few days. The Ukrainian government has called the decision by Atlasia to support Russia's claim to Crimea a major betrayal and one that would not go unpunished. The sanctions on Russia and Atlasia  come with the following terms:
-Atlssians and Russian citizens and foreign residents are bared from working in the Ukraine.
-Top government officials for both Russia and Atlasia are barred from visiting the Ukraine.
-Bank accounts and assets have been frozen for any Atlasia or Russian citizens of permanent residence with assets in the Ukraine.
-Atlasian and Russian imports and exports will be tagged with a 5% tariff and will be increased to 15% by the end of the year with the Ukraine does not regain control of Crimea.

The Ukrainian government for now has confirmed they will not send in military troops into Crimea but have not taken the option off the table entirely.

We also can report violent protests have broken out in Crimea by Ukrainian  residents upset with what they see as Russian control of the region. So far 59 people have died and 103 people have been injured injured in the protests. We can report that Russian military police have gotten into the conflict using tear gas in an attempt to control the conflict. The Kremlin defended the conduct of military police by saying it was a much needed step to defend Russian citizens.

Crisis in Crimea worsens as angry protestors engage in violent clashes with military police
Ukrainian rebel groups continue to clash with military police in hopes of overthrowing the Crimea government and returning the region to be under Ukrainian control. Protestors attacked large groups of military police and government institutions while police fought back with tear gas. An estimated 88 people have died in the attacks over the last couple of days with another 205 people being injured. 31 people have been taken into police custody including 2 Atlasian citizens for their role in the attacks.

Russia has threaten to send in the military if the Ukraine doesn't start to control their rebel groups.

Cube van kills 79 injures 346 in attack in Kiev Ukraine-Free The People takes responsibility

At around 4:45 pm local time an out of control cube van drove down a side walk in downtown Kiev for 7 blocks killing 79 and injuring another 346. The truck ended up losing control crashing into a median bursting into flames killing the driver inside. Russian aligned terrorist group Free the People immediately claimed full responsibility for the attack. FTP leader Paul Carson said "it is is important for the people to use violence when necessary to achieve their political goals and overthrow the elites in society". Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko condemned the attack stating "their is no excuse or need for violence to be used as political tool and that all Ukrainians need to come together as one after today's brutal attack". Meanwhile the Kremlin has denied involvement in the attack "saying we have no association with FTP or any of their actions. We condem violence as a political tool and our hearts are with the people of the Ukraine and Kiev at this time".

China to Impose $1000,000,000 penalty after Atlasia misses deadline to ratify China-Atlasia  treaty

The Chinese government in a press release today said that it was deeply disappointed that the Atlasian federal government was unable to ratify the proposed treaty today. However based on the fact the deal looks certain to be ratified by tomorrow, the Chinese government will instead impose a $1000,000,000 a day penalty until the deal is ratified for failing to reach the deadline. If the treaty is not ratified China has stated that they will walk away from the bargaining table.

Foul.

The Congress will not consent to any penalty.

Also pretty sure there is a typo in the second amount listed, or a missing comma.

Look at it from this perspective, lets say this was any other game. With a set of rules and part of the game was that something had to be done by X time limit or a match would be lost or some points deducted or something.

How is this different from that? And should it be different? Nobody is going to play a game where there are no consequences. Because the only way to be a able to win a game, is to also be able to lose it.

Okay.  I, as PPT, will not apologize for the way the Senate took its time assessing this treaty to send our troops into war.  China will respect the traditions and procedures of the Atlasian Senate, and the Senate will resist any attempts to impose an undue fine on the Republic of Atlasia.

One cannot simply reject what the GM says, there's literally no way for you to reject it unless you want nuclear war.

Well I hope that people wouldn't let it escalate that far.

China and Russia will always come some kind of deal eventually, the question is how horrific is the cost of that deal going to be, and how many less bad deals will be thrown into a burning trashcan before people realize this is the game. Perhaps, and I pray we don't reach that point,  where some desire to play a game of chicken with the GM.

You get the kind of game you deserve and the kind of game you fight for. There is not enough people in 2017 to sustain an elections game with a number generator at its core, compared to the alternatives, it just won't stack up with less boring games a click away on your cell phone.

I don't see a refusal to pay the China-imposed fine as a rejection of what the GM says. China can of course demand money but there is no face-saving way that Atlasia with its claim to be the strongest global superpower can yield to such demands.

Of course, assuming one remains within the boundaries of what the GM says, then yes it is possible to do that and it is also possible to face dire consequences.

It has been stressed numerous times that there was a time limit to getting the deal ratified. Refusal to get it done on time has it's consequences. It's much better to just pay the fine than to outright refuse and test to see how far China will go.

Also keep in mind, the whole conflict that this is revolving around, was completely our fault. We don't get to cause trouble, then make demands because we don't like what happens as a result.

I absolutely want us to remain within the boundaries set by the GM, of course. That said, accepting to pay fines imposed on us by other nations would be an unheard of humiliation for the Republic of Atlasia and tell the world that we can be successfully blackmailed, which I consider a scenario to be prevented at all costs.

At war with one nuclear power and on the brink of war with another, while capitulating to a third. If this is Atlas's attempt to convince the world that Trump is not so bad, it's a good try.

I absolutely stand with Senators Scott and ZuWo on this. The idea that Atlasia should be fined for going through a serious discourse as opposed to mindlessly doing what we're told is ridiculous and the idea that if we refused to pay the fine, we would face nuclear war, is even more ridiculous.

Senators Siren, Scott and ZuWo are right, it is unacceptable to be forced by China to pay a fine and capitulate to their demands. This is a provocative and absurd move from Beijing.

(I applaud the GM and Deputy GM for their work on the storyline thus far, though)
