Yes, RL events occur in game unless vetoed by the gm or contradict a GM storyline.

While accepting the veracity of the Game Moderator's report, I must wonder if China does not understand just who they are treating with. Atlasia is far from being a defenseless island nation floating upon the Pacific like a cork; and while recent events have perhaps not placed us in an ideal negotiating position, such belligerence on the part of the Chinese would cause as much harm to their own countries as it would to ours. Threats to "walk away" from the table unless every one of their conditions is met is absurd. That's not how negotiations between two nuclear powers work.

I would add that the United States tolerated far more intransigence from the Soviets during the Second World War than China has endured these past weeks. Again, I don't doubt that the Chinese are indeed telling us what the GM says they are — but I would urge our leaders, as I have in private, to defend our sovereignty in the face of these unreasonable demands, as I am sure they will endeavor to do.

Korean War Update

North Korea has struck a blow against a South Korean POSCO integrated steel mill in Gwangyang. The attack occurred early this morning, and resulted in 354 casualties. Over 900 individuals were non-fatally injured in the attack. South Korean officials were taken by surprise at the bombing, as Gwangyang is deep in the southernmost portion of the country and was not thought to be a prime target for attack.

Meanwhile, North Korean forces continue to be pushed back as Chinese troops move toward Pyongyang. In a decisive victory, Chinese bombers disabled Sup'ung Dam, a major source of North Korean hydroelectric power. The dam has a long history and was in fact bombed three separate times during the original Korean War in an attempt to disable the dam's power station.

2018 Olympics Relocated to Calgary

The 2018 Winter Olympics have officially been relocated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada,
after the recent bombing of the Olympic Village in Pyeongchang, South Korea. Calgary was the only city to bid for the Olympics following the announcement of relocation.

Free the People: A Kremlin Puppet?

Recent evidence and documents from the FBI seem to show that the Russian group known as 'Free the People' is in fact controlled by the Kremlin. The group was allegedly behind the assassination of Emmanuel Macron, a recent terrorist attack in Ukraine, the release of personal information of 150,000 Fremont drivers, and attempts at hijacking voting machines in the recent Federalist Primary.

If true, this would be a major blow to relations between Atlasia and Russia, especially following the recent agreement on North Korea.

Meanwhile, Russia has decided to send its military into Crimea to control what are seen as out-of-control clashes between Ukrainian rebel cells and Crimean police, making true to a promise it made on September 25. Updates will be ongoing as the situation worsens.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel hospitalized after attempted assassination attempt by FTP member
German Chancellor Angela Merkel was rushed to hospital after an attempted assassination attempt took place just before a scheduled low key press conference. Merkel was rushed to hospital with gun shot wound in the knee being placed in the icu. We can report that Merkel is now in stable but critical condition and is expected to make a full recovery. Merkels suspected attacker 38 year old John Hannah is in police custody. Hannah has known ties to terrorist group FTP. Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called the attack "uterally descpicable" stating that "FTP will surly pay for these awful attacks on our Chancellor as well as the many innocent victims across Europe", finally warning "If Russia supports FTP they will indeed pay a steep price for the their insistence on supporting terror groups". Angele Merkel is believed to be planning on returning as Chancellor after she is fully recovered.

South Korea, North Korea, China, The Uk, France and Germany agree to cease fire as deal to end Korean War looks intimate
Six out of the major seven countries involved in the Korean War have reached a major agreement calling for a cease fire effective midnight on Oct 8th. This deal was reached after North Korea reached a tentative deal with the above countries to end the war while making major concessions to all five countries. These deals have not been made public and won't be made public until Atlasia reaches an agreement to end the war with North Korea.

All six counties all believed to be growing frustrated with Atlasias lack of involvement in negotiations and may try and to force Atlasia out of the conflict without cooperation from Atlasia.

Korean War Update
Atlasia has since agreed to a cease fire joining all six other countries who previously reached a deal yesterday on a cease fire. Atlasia has reportedly still not reached out to North Korea on an offer to end the Korean war but is said to be working on it.

Excellent developments.

I assume the Senate will need to ratify this treaty for the agreement to be official?  We can also start the process of withdrawing our troops from the region.

Scotland to hold Independence vote after U.K. Parliament consents to vote
Scotland will hold a historic second independence referendum after the U.K. parliament consented do a vote to take place. The trigger of allowing another referendum was the belief that rouge government MPs may support a SNP no confidence motion which was supported by the opposition if the government tried to block the referendum. The current government is a grand confusing conservative and labor coalition . UK pm Kenneth Clarke stated that a new referendum would allow people in Scotland an opportunity to decide their own future and stated he would accept the results regardless of result. Meanwhile Scottish first minister  Nicola Surgeon said that it is time for Scotland to choose the strongest future possible and stated her sincere hope for a informative and clean campaign. The referendum will take place on February 23rd 2018.

Catalonia declares independence from Spain while Russia officially recognizes an independent Catalonia

In a historic and defiant move Catalonia President Carles Puigdemont declared his country independent of Spain. In his speech President Carles stated their had been a strong mandidate for independence and it is time to fulfill our mandate to the people. Carles stated today's move doesn't mean his "country" doesn't want want to work with Spain diplomatically "but it is time for both of us to go our separate ways". Catalonia will begin the process of independence over the next year with or without Spain's cooperation.

Meanwhile Spain's prime minister Marinano Rajoy stated that he will not let Catalonia go freely, claiming that Catalonia will always be a proud part of Spain. Rajoy stated that he has no qualms in sending in the military to Catalonia if Carles refuses to back down.

We can also state that Russia has announced their recognition of an independent Catalonia. Today Vladimir Putin today said "I am proud to say the Russian government fully recognizes Catalonia as a sovereign state and we hope other countries will join us in recognizing this great county".

That would be insane.

In such a scenario, that would only strengthen the argument of Atlasian secessionists, that Atlasia should therefore recognize the independence of Lincoln, or Fremont, or the South.

For the sake of transparency and in case it wasn't seen elsewhere, I can't speak for what the Senate decides on while they vote on this, but this is my administration's stance on the issue:

I had been approached previously asking if my administration will be seeking to recognize Catalonia, however at this time and after long discussions with my advisers, this is not something we intend to do, and will be supporting our longtime friends and allies on this issue.

Coup in North Korea a Possibility

The new interim North Korean leader, Pak Pong-Ju, is in danger from military officials loyal to the deceased Cho Pu-Il, according to recent intelligence reports. Key among the dissenters is Yun Jong-Rin, the commander of the KPA Supreme Guard Command, who has cultivated a following within other high-ranking officials in the KPA, who are resentful of the Chinese and South Korean-supported Pak. Rin has publicly stated his goal to set up a government that will 'fight for the people of North Korea,' and is eager to tear up the post-war agreement.

In recent days, Rin has left the capital, along with several other officers, and his location is currently unknown. However, Rin has released word that he has recently poisoned several officials loyal to Pak Pong-Ju, and has insinuated that the interim leader is next. Additional reports are needed to determine the veracity of his poisoning claims.

Deadly Protests in Barcelona

Tensions in Spain over the Catalan declaration of independence came to a head today, as protests in the Catalan capital of Barcelona turned deadly. Armed protesters took to the streets early this morning, and quickly grew violent. Military police used tear gas in an attempt to quell the protests, and justified the use of deadly force against protesters that they deemed dangerous. An estimated 32 were killed, with 114 injured. A breakdown of the casualties into police and protester categories is unavailable at this time.

In light of recent events, Spain is considering passage of a law that would allow police to charge anyone actively supporting the independence movement with treason.

Alleged FTP Attack on Jets-Patriots Game

During today's football game between the New England Patriots and the New York Jets in MetLife Stadium (East Rutherford, NJ), two bombs exploded. According to video footage of the attack, the bombs were planted near each team's bench. The bombings killed several spectators and injured many more, including bench players and coaches from each team. It should be noted that some of the starters were out on the field at the time. An estimated 57 people were killed with another 157 injured.

The group 'Free the People' immediately took responsibility for the bombings, but did not state a direct reasoning for the attack. Additional information is needed to say for certain whether the bombs were actually FTP's doing. Further reports on this tragedy will be forthcoming.

Catalonia pushes ahead with independence as conflict with Spanish government reaches boiling point
Defying both the Spanish Supreme Court and the Spanish government Catalonia is continuing their push for independence, with the passage of a bill authorizing the Catalonia government powers to implement their 1 year plan for full autonomy. The plan will include the following major aspects as stated below:

-Catalonia will begin to issue government ID and passports within the next couple of weeks
-Catalonia will develop  their own federal bureaucracy and constitution
-Catalonia will create their own currency
-Catalonia will begin to enter into international agreements and treaty's as well as develop their own military

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajov stated his frustration over recent moves by the Catalonia government; calling it a true betrayal by the Catalonia government against Spain as well as calling on Catalonia to listen to the recent court ruling which ruled the referendum was illegal. Rajov also announced he would be deploying Spanish military officials to Catalonia to enforce the court order and fight back against the Catalonia government attempts to unilaterally succeed.
