I'm generally not fond of this kind of regulation—I don't believe there are any safety concerns about genetically modified food, and I fear the implementation of a labeling system (suggesting that there is some reason to be concerned) may lead to delays in the implementation of a technology that has the potential to significantly and positively affect our society.

     Agreed. GMO is a large umbrella, including many modifications of unknown or neutral health impact. I don't see a compelling reason to require labeling products as such, especially considering that quite a few products are voluntarily labeled "GMO-free" already for people who are interested in buying such things.

I join with the objections of Senators SJoyce and PiT in that the concerns usually whipped over any genetically modified product are founded in a generally misinformed public debate.

I only sponsored this because it seemed interesting and I wanted to see where the debate would go. I started out fairly neutral on this, but my colleagues have convinced me to vote against this.
