She's certainly good at keeping us all on the edge of our seats.

Excited to see what she says.

I hope she stays in the Senate, though.

More on Collins: as stated earlier, she is scheduled to announcer her decision on Friday. Now we know it'll be made at an event in Rockport, hosted by the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce, per BDN. http://bangordailynews.com/2017/10/11/politics/susan-collins-will-announce-governor-decision-friday-in-rockport/

Also, Shawn Moody, who ran as an independent in 2006, joined the GOP today and is leaning towards mounting another run.

Okay No longer a toss up likely D
the only way I see it going back into the republicans hands is if another independent shows up and takes a huge amount of support

Booooo.

She's too liberal for my tastes on both social and economic issues. Maine, also usually alters between the two parties for Governor (like Michigan), so I think the race is Lean (or even Likely) D.

Depending on the alternatives, Maine is a far less suitable place to be rino safaring incumbents for hard core conservatives. There are many places where such can be done and not just hand a seat to the Democrats.

Collins might not run, but State Senator Mark Dion (D-Portland) is running. His announcement was completely overshadowed by Collins' non-announcement.

http://www.pressherald.com/2017/10/12/mark-dion-joins-crowded-field-of-democrats-in-2018-governors-race/

He's not very bright, he's not very well known, he's not going to win. He's my State Senator, and I voted for his Republican challenger over him in 2016 (which was his first election to the State Senate).

He was the Bernie official at my caucus in 2016 and left before the caucus counting got underway, directly resulting in chaos at the caucus.

I hope he finishes last.

Isn't Maine pretty much Indieland though? They seem to always have an independent running.

Also, on that note, is this election going to use FPTP or STV?

The courts said STV violates the Maine Constitution, so it's an FTP clown car all the way.

IRV will probably be used for the Democratic primary at least, though.

I'm guessing a lot more people will be entering the race over the next few weeks now that Collins is out.

I know some people's interest in this race may be diminished with Collins not entering, but this is really fascinating to me. The top 3 Republicans in the State Legislature are all running.

Shaping up to be an exciting race on both sides of the aisle. Couldn't ask for anything more, really.

http://bangordailynews.com/2017/10/23/politics/maines-ranked-choice-voting-law-delayed-until-2021/

With ranked choice voting delayed, Democrats better get their crap together and back a winner for once or we'll see 2010 all over again with a split vote and nutjob tea partier getting elected. I'm not impressed with any of the candidates thus far.

@Politics1com
MAINE: Cong Chellie Pingree (D) is considering jumping into the already crowded gubernatorial race, per @BDNPolitics. 10 Dems, 5 GOP, 8 others are already in the race.

This is the article:
