How would the ticket have gone if it was Weld/Johnson? I think that the ticket would have done much better. I just watched a video from a Johnson/Weld campaign rally in new york shortly after the aleppo gaffe
https://www.c-span.org/video/?415045-1/libertarian-ticket-campaigns-new-york-city
Weld had a absolutely amazing speech and I even said damn I would have voted for him then when Johnson started talking I lost complete interest he sounded like a ing mad man when talking about foreign policy.
How would the ticket have done with Weld at the head of the ticket?

Always wondered that. I thought that they would do much much much better. Probably nearing 6%. Even I like Bill Weld (I think he would actually make a better president than Hillary)! Gary Johnson is a dud. Libertarians should have flipped the ticket, I have no idea what the heck they were thinking!

By the end of the campaign Weld had basically endorsed Clinton, so.

Bill Weld was stumping for Hillary Clinton by October lol.

Yes, I would have taken this ticket more seriously. Johnson was just an unabashed idiot. He better not run in 2020 when he's been in MIA in recent political discourse. Loser.

Well, Weld is probably one of my favorite modern Republicans, so I'd take it a lot more seriously. He's a very sharp guy.

It easily would've surpassed the 5% mark. Romney said he would've endorsed the ticket with Weld at the top, and I assume others felt the same way. This probably would've led to more Republican defections and, most likely, President Hillary Clinton.

I highly doubt Weld could've won the Libertarian nomination-- the snowflakes apparently weren't keen on him, as if they weren't extraordinarily lucky to have two former governors on the ticket.

The Libertarian party never would have nominated Weld for the top spot. Remember that they almost nominated Larry Sharpe for VP instead of Weld.

If it somehow happened, yes, the ticket would have done far better. Romney would have endorsed the ticket, which would likely prevent Evan McMullin from running and bring on a lot of other Never-Trumpers. Weld also never would have made the Aleppo or the "Favorite Leader" gaffes, and Johnson would have been able to fill the appropriate role of the VP during the campaign - Parrot the top of the ticket talking points and don't overshadow the top of the ticket. That probably would have been enough to get the ticket to 5%, which is the threshold for federal funding in the next election.

Bill Weld could never have won the nomination.

I think Johnson-Weld was seriously held back by Johnson being such a...weird...guy, but realistically, he was the best person that party could've nominated. I do think that if they had just duct-taped his mouth shut and locked him in a closet the whole election, he could've gotten ~5% rather than ~3%.

Weld obviously carries Massachusetts. Remember he won reelection there with like 70%!

Weld-Johnson would have done better if they were running together as Independents, as opposed to running as Libertarians.  I think it's easier for folks to vote for an "Independent" candidacy than someone who's running for an established third party.

It would still have been a ticket with Gary Johnson on it.

A Vice President who doesn't know what Aleppo is and shows up to interviews baked isn't going to be any more promising than a President with those qualities.

It's interesting about Sharpe - he's not much different from Johnson, and he had a very high opinion of Kasich, who Weld endorsed.
