I think we can all applaud Lumine for doing such a great job on so many different games over the years, covering everything from the Belle Epoque to the War of the Five Kings. I've noticed there hasn't really been an active game in the last few months however, and would be more than willing to start one up. I tried hosting one several years ago, but made the mistake of having too many countries. This meant that when numerous people joined, some ended up not responding and I was paralyzed trying to make events and progress when major nations were completely inactive for weeks on end.

With that in mind, I've created a couple of scenarios. Mostly they are centered on periods of conflict throughout history (because, let's be honest, that helps create some of the best activity and funnest games Wink ). Feel free to add suggestions for scenarios though,  especially if there's a period you think would work better. I was tempted to include either WW2 or the Age of Imperialism, but we've tried games before on those time periods and they really didn't seem to go anywhere. I'm curious to see if anyone is interested.

While I definitely cannot promise to have nearly the same level of logistics on such a massive scale as Lumine has had in some of his games (as I want to keep this manageable Smiley ), they'll all follow the same basic model. Each player takes a power and attempts to lead it to the best of their ability, responding to randoms events, actions from other players, or internal dissent.

The Fall of Darkness (407)

The old order is under siege. After centuries of dominating the Medditeranean, the Roman Empire faces its greatest threat yet. In the west thousands of barbarians are pouring over the frozen Rhine, the province of Britain has been abandoned, and the 23 year old Emperor Honorius sits idly in Italy under the sway of barbarian generals. To the east Arcadius and his court face their own problems. Hordes of Goths sit to the north, the Sasanid nemisis sits ready to pounce in the south, and a mysterious new horde is rising in the east. Will the Empire survive or will a new order be ushered in through the anihillation of the old?

Playable:

Western Roman Empire
Eastern Roman Empire
Sasanid Empire
Visigoths
Ostrogoths
Vandals
Suebi
Franks
Burgundians
Huns

Might Makes Right (1475)

The old kingdoms of the world seem to be set on continuing their feuding as the Medieval world comes to a close. In Castile, Aragon and Portugal are waging a succession war for the future of Spain. England and France remain rivals, though the position of the House of York appears far from stable with Lancastrians waiting in the wings. In Constantinople Mehmed the Conquerer reigns from the city he conquered from the Greeks at the age of 21 and in Muscovy the royal house lays claim to the title of the "Third Rome" as they shake off the shackles of Mongol rule.

Playable nations:

Portugal (and Portuguese Castile)
Aragon (and Aragonese Castile)
France
England (and perhaps the Lancastrians)
Austria (as Holy Roman Emperor)
Ottomans
Muscovy

Concert of Europe (1756)

With Prussia's recent acquisition of Silesia, Europe remains in a state of tension. The great powers continue to jostle for control while the idea of Enlightened Despotism reigns across the continent. With celebrated leaders such as Frederick the Great, Maria Theresa, Louis XV, and George II all looking to expand their empires, whether in the old world or the new, it appears that though the storm of war will once more appear.

Playable Nations:

France
Great Britain
Prussia
Austria
Russia
Ottoman Empire
Spain
Poland-Lithuania

Clash of the Emperors (1804)

Europe has been submerged in more than a decade of chaos as the French threw off the schackles of the Ancien Regime in an attempt to create a Republic. After a Reign of Terror, instability, and corruption, the Revolution seems to have culminated in the foundation of a new monarchy under the Emperor Napoleon. As the powers of Europe appear to be entering another war, can Bonaparte spread the Revolution or will the new Empire be smothered by its numerous enemies?

Playable nations:

France
Great Britain
Austria
Russia
Prussia

Optional:
Spain
Ottomans

It seems as though people are leaning towards 1750, which works for me. I'll leave this thread around in case more people decide otherwise, with the final decision and writing begining tomorrow!

I would suggest a more localised one. The Irish Civil War for example. Rarely covered, yet teeming with potential storylines.

I was considering including one involving the Wars of the Three Kingdoms and the English Civil War, but figured there might not be enough interest. People could be Charles I, the Parliamentarians, Irish, Covenanters etc.

According to the poll (of 4 people lol) it does look like it's leaning one way though.

Nice! If 1756 is the one, I'd like to reserve Prussia.

Duly noted! Smiley

Feel free! Is there any power in any scenario you'd like to reserve?

Awesome to see people reserving nations! I'd like to get a player for Russia as well before we begin, but I'll start writing everything out tonight.

So we will be doing the 1756 scenario. I'm going to have to lock up anymore signups for now (with the exception of Kalwejt, who is still choosing between two powers). Here's the list of players as I see it now:

Russian Empire- Empress Elizabeth Petrovna (Barnes)
Kingdom of France- Louis XV Bourbon (Windjammer)
Kingdom in Prussia- Friedrich II Hohenzollern (Lumine)
Archduchy of Austria- Maria Theresa and Joseph II Habsburg (TimTurner)
Kingdom of Great Britain- George II of Hanover (DKrol)
Kingdom of Spain- Fernando VI Bourbon (CMB222)
United Provinces of the Netherlands- Anne of Hannover, Regent (GOTfan)

With Kalwejt choosing between the Ottomans or the Poles.

Is anything still left? Sad  This sounds fun; I'd be willing to take whichever country Kal doesn't want if it's not too late.

Shoot I just saw this. If there's still an opening I would be very interested, even if its a less powerful nation not on the list. That said, I completely understand if you want to keep the minor states as NPCs.

You guys can choose between Poland-Lithuania, Sweden, Portugal, and Denmark-Norway. First come, first serve. Smiley

The updates for X and Ypestis will be edited into the opening posts once I've completed the entries, but other than that turn 1 can be considered open. I'm locking this thread, all further discussion can take place in Rules & Commentary.
