If you founded a U.S. state, how should the lieutenant governor be elected?

The following map shows the common methods used by the U.S. states:

Α: Same ticket
B: Same ticket in the general election, separate election in the primaries
C: Separate election
D: Elected by the state senate
E/F: Jurisdiction does not have a lieutenant governor

Some states don't have the office of a lieutenant governor, thus other office holders occupy that post in case of death, removal or resignation:

E: In Arizona, Oregon and Wyoming (and Puerto Rico) it's the secretary of state.
F: In Maine and New Hampshire it's the Senate president.

Illinois is same ticket in general, separate in primary, I think Michigan elects theirs in a convention instead of a primary

I think Wikipedia defines primary as a contest where all voters can vote for the lieutenant gubernatorial candidate.

The yellow method seems to be a particularly Southern thing. Why?
Do Southerners hate the establishment so much that they don't want them to force any politician upon them?

No, it's not. It was up until after the 2010 elections when Scott Lee Cohen was elected as the Democratic running mate, but then had to drop out after it was revealed he was convicted of domestic abuse. The state switched the process for the 2014 elections (Paul Vallas was selected by Quinn as his running mate)

The Lieutenant Governor isn't worth the salary that they're paid. I do like the idea of the electorate being able to choose the governor's successor though as opposed to just having it be the leader of the State Senate.

I'd probably choose a unicameral legislature with an odd number of members to avoid ties.

Long history of powerful state Senates divvied up by county in the South, too, where President of the Senate is a very important role. In TX there's a good argument the Lt Gov is actually more powerful than the governor

A seems to be winning, but I live  in an "A" state and the Lt. Gov. is a meaningless token position. Don't see any reason to have it.

That would be less meaningless if the LG could break the tie in the senate. A scenario that could definitely happen in the future.

Same ticket and let the gubernatorial nominee chose his or her running mate. After the primaries, so that a primary opponent can also be chosen. I think a governor should be able to pick his own people in the executive branch. That's also the reason why I support abolishing elections for Attorney General, Secretary of State, State Treasurer or any other executive position. They should all be appointed by the governor and confirmed by the respective state senate. And they should serve without a fixed term, with the governor being able to dismiss a cabinet officer. Like at the federal level.

I made a similar poll some weeks ago.

It's a pity that the map doesn't show how the "dark blue states" choose their LG candidates.
i think in some states the gubernatorial candidate has to choose his deputy before the primary, and in some states he can choose him at the state party convention, right?

When I created this poll, South Carolina was still a yellow state. Cry
Does anybody know why they changed it?

I think B is the best option. With C, its possible to get a LT belonging to the opposite party, and that can cause problems. With A, you get terrible LTs. B at least means they have to be selected by the voters.

C. Separate elections are more interesting.
