That's actually not uncommon. Remember, Virginia and Florida lie in the South, too. (I don't even county Maryland and Delaware as Southern.)
If you only refer to the Deep South. Someone living in big cities like Atlanta is the correct answer.

Are we defining Southern as 'lives in the American South' or as 'culturally Southern'?

If the former, well-educated, young, urban/suburban especially in NoVA, the Research Triangle, south Fla.

If the latter, it gets tougher. Perhaps gay (I know a culturally Southern woman in Miss. who is probably gay, and is liberal). Maybe less religious, more educated, and/or young, urban/suburban. Also, someone very poor who wasn't fooled by Trump's so-called populism.

I would guess a highly educated one, or perhaps autistic or otherwise special needs, or gay.

The same would go for the narrower question of describing a SWM in a county that recently swung hard to the right (Elliott, KY for example)-- the holdouts for Clinton would likely fall in one of those categories.

I know one, and he also isn't even a college graduate believe it or not. He lives in New York though (and is a Mississippi native) so maybe has just rejected the politics of the region.
