He could.

If he goes the conventional route, and gets elected to statewide office, he probably has to win against an incumbent, which is a situation in which he'll be the underdog.

The prediction wouldn't be that he's a competent Governor or Senator, but that he's one of the most prominent.

So he'll have two major hurdles to clear.

On the Democratic side, I'd like to see leaders in state legislatures step up.

Senate Leaders: Kevin de Leon (California), Tim Ashe (Vermont), Oscar Braynon (Florida), Jim Ananich (Michigan), Aaron Ford (Nevada), Billie Sutton (South Dakota), Lee Harris (Tennessee), and Jennifer Shilling (Wisconsin).

House leaders/Speakers: Crisanta Duran (Colorado), Sara Gideon (Maine) (Or Hannah Pingree, if she wants to jump back into politics), Brian Egolf (New Mexico), and Mitzi Johnson (Vermont).

He's unconventional but I'd like to see Progressive Party Lt. Gov. of Vermont David Zuckerman run for Governor or Senate once Leahy retires.

I think Jeff Jackson (D-NC) is basically guaranteed to be a star if he manages to unseat Tillis.

Democratic: Kamala Harris, Gavin Newsom, Stacey Abrams, Pete Buttigieg, Seth Moulton, John Bel Edwards, Keith Ellison
Republican: Nikki Haley, Marco Rubio, Mia Love, Elise Stefanik, George P. Bush, Eric Greitens, Jeff Flake, Ben Sasse

Lol at Marco Rubio, Jeff Flake, George P. Bush!

Flake literally gave up his seat because he knew he was too unpopular with republicans to survive a primary despite having big money behind him. America is sick of Bushes. Rubio will likely remain important but never fulfill his presidential ambitions. I'd also add that Nikki Haley and Mia Love are overrated and mainly talked about because they're nonwhite women. Both were #NeverTrump (as was Sasse), in Love's case, even in the last weeks of the GE. That may go over well with Mormons, but it doesn't with most republicans. Stefanik is the only one on that list that I'd call a rising star, especially as the GOP looks to the northeast to make up for loses in the sunbelt.

When I think rising GOP star, Tom Cotton is the first name that comes to mind. Hopefully more will emerge over the next few cycles.

Possibly, but he has to actually win a statewide race first.
