Well, looks like Japan might change its constitution thanks to North Korea's missile program.
In the 1980s, Japan threatened to start  developing nuclear weapons in the event that North Korea did. Neither China nor the Soviet Union protested, even though both were opposed to nuclear proliferation. I'm guessing that the Japanese would have bought Soviet nukes or hired Soviet nuclear scientists.

The Soviet Union and China put an end to any North Korean nuke program.

I'm not sure about back then, but these day's isn't Japan the poster child for, 'we can have nuclear-tipped ICBMs within 6 months of deciding to have them, maybe sooner?"

Saudi Arabia is said to have the ability to get nukes ASAP due to close relationship with Pakistan, but it's not the same as having ability to quickly assemble it on its own.

I know people say that, but given that Pakistan wouldn't even let the Saudis borrow their army, I'm gonna bet on 'no' when it comes to giving them nukes.

BREAKING: US considering "limited" strike on NK, expecting it not to escalate IOT give NK a "bloody nose." Epic stupidity thinking that the NKs will not escalate when they respond in kind. Wow.

http://www.businessinsider.com/us-reportedly-wants-bloody-nose-strike-against-north-korea-2017-12

BBC sourcing comes from The Daily Telegraph sources from within the administration.

That is remarkably terrible analysis by whatever hack thinks it’ll end at a “bloody nose.” This isn’t Syria or Libya we’re talking about

It's an analysis coming from a political faction that believes in things because they really want them to be true. It's an analysis ultimately from the same group of people as Roy Moore's spokescritter. It's par for the course. (And it's not like the non-Trump faction of our government has any better record.)

There is no such thing as a “limited” strike, as Kim has staked the legitimacy of his regime on his missile program. If he loses that he could be overthrown, which means certain death for him. He would no doubt respond militarily and from there on it escalates very quickly to all out nuclear war. In any case to simply assume the best case scenario rather than the worst is pretty much every military disaster in history. They thought WW1 would be over by Christmas, and that China would not intervene in the first Korean War, too.

Ehhh...

Not buying it. But I do hope the people of South Korea and Japan are prepared just in case. The biggest loss in a war with North Korea is the possible devastation of one of the greatest cultural centers of the world. We shouldnt risk that but thats just my two cents.

What is the end game if NK doesn't disarm and there is no war?

US, South Korea, and Japan acceptance of a nuclear NK and massive deterrence/nuclear SK and Japan. It's not a preferable outcome.

Basically this becomes the event that makes nuclear proliferation a reality. An inflection point. This is basically what Putin wants. That is, the world to be a bunch of fortresses pointing nukes at each other.

Other countries are not in a position of North Korea. Besides, I'm sure Putin would be fine with North Korea nuking the U.S., South Korea and Japan and getting nuked in return, since the U.S. and its allies would lose far more than the country with virtually nothing to lose but their lives.

No offence but if we get annihilated, I'm not rebuilding. Catch me sipping irradiated chai while y'all rebuild schools and churches.

This would be a perfect moment for the host of Apprentice President to claim all his talk about his huge "button" had produced results. Instead, his lickspittles are trying to snuff out any hint of diplomacy. It's clear that the Trump administration wants a nuclear war.

No matter what you say you would have fully supported Bush at the time. Probably would have been mad at him for not using nukes in Iraq and Afghanistan too.

Oh I did. I was ten. Then a roadside bomb blew up my school's lunch lady's son. What's your excuse?

Even when I was as much of a Republican jack as you are I never wanted them to use nuclear weapons.
