Sadly Houston will only see 67% totality.

It ain't gonna be night dark, but more like cloudy dark.

Anyone seen a national weather map? I sure don't want to drive to anywhere cloudy.

Anyone seen a national weather map? I sure don't want to drive to anywhere cloudy.

Summary

-Slightly iffy on the immediate Pacific coast, with some low fog possible for a couple miles inland, but it's starting to look better for it to burn off quickly
-Good conditions for everything else west of the Rockies
-Nebraska could be an issue, with the possibility for a stubborn batch of clouds to linger over the Northern Plains up to the Great Lakes.
-In Missouri, the further east you go, the better it looks right now.
-Very promising forecast for Illinois, Kentucky, and most of Tennessee (including Nashville, the largest city in the path).  A note of caution is that it will be very hot (93-95 degrees, probably feeling like over 100 in Tennessee, but it will cool off a bit when the sun starts to be covered by the moon- and the decreased sunlight will also discourage any random puffy fair-weather clouds)
-Carolinas: Hit or miss- There could be a couple thunderstorms, but there will also be plenty of breaks of sun.  The Tennessee caveats on the heat and fair weather clouds apply there as well.

Of course, this is all up in the air, and exact cloud movements can't really even be forecasted an hour out.

Here is a national map from some FakeNews: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2017/08/17/total-solar-eclipse-weather-forecast-as-of-aug-17/?utm_term=.44a4d6b9de1a

Go somewhere else. You have plenty of time to drive to Illinois or Kentucky or wherever.

We have reservations....my wife isn't changing her mind.  She planned everything many months ago.  In-laws are meeting up with us.  We're keeping our fingers crossed.

Found my eclipse glasses from 2012 in my storage unit. Almost 80% totality where I live.

It's about 60-70% totality for me on Long Island (I think)...not that I'll be paying attention at 3:00 or so in the afternoon.

I've made visits Friday and Sunday to Weiser HS (ID) where I'll be viewing. The forecast is looking great with clear skies and little to no smoke in the air. Traffic looks to be light coming to Weiser from the north on US-95 in the early morning; there's not much population from that way to make a day trip south.

Seattle has 92% totality, and it's noticeably darker right now.

I remember the 1999 one here in Austria.

I was 12 then and I remember it was quite cloudy here in the West (Salzburg), but there was better weather in the East near Hungary.

I've seen a passing thunderstorm darken it up more than it is here.  I mean, who care?

Just saw it in Nashville.  The weather was very clear, and you really don't get the full experience until you get into the 100% area, which was really cool to see.

Agreed. The haters just saw the partial and didn't know any better.

Apparently, the people who were watching downtown by the river had a freak cloud block the sun during totality.  Here, only a few miles away, I didn't see a cloud that blocked the sun for the entire time I was watching.  I decided not to go to the baseball stadium, but they missed part of totality due to the same cloud, but it moved away just in time for them to be able to see it.

I was watching in Nashville at the park by the capitol building, and the sun appeared through a hole in a big cloud just as it reached totality. Amazing experience.
