If the researchers find irrefutable proofs that the Earth is getting warmer because of the human activities, should the anthropogenic global warming denial become a criminal offense?

If it is true, anthropogenic global warming is happening now. Holocaust happened in the past.

Not for regular people. But for the politicians and businesspeople who are going to make our descendants suffer? Yeah, they should be charged with manslaughter.

No. This is rather Orwellian. Pretty much the definition of Thoughtcrime.

Really, a good idea should be able to triumph on its own merits in the public sphere. If global warming is such a grave threat, then it should be possible to move people to oppose it. Banning an opposing idea is a sign of weakness; that is, those who oppose that idea do not have the means to argue against it and therefore resort to a vulgar display of power to achieve their ends.

I will say definitely no to that dreadful, totalitarian, collectivist idea.

Of course people like that also think that hate speech should be a punishable offense by the government - subject to fines and jail time.

The idea that it would accomplish anything helpful is itself a form of denial.

No, because that means any opinion against science could be made a criminal offense. Although I fully believe in science, not just when it comes to climate change, I am totally against that, because the freedom of opinion should not be restricted. Btw, I am also against Holocaust denial as criminal offense despite the fact that I strongly condemn it.

I'm not a totalitarian fascist so no. Also, most people skeptical of man causation don't denies climate change. The left just shouts "DENIER!" because they don't like conservative solutions or any skepticism (However justified).

Why bother when intimidation, marginalization, and ostracism does such an effective job on their own?

Climate denial is just a facet of the anti-science, pro-ignorance view cultivated by the GOP. The celebration of ignorance is the root of the problem.

I'd be happy to see a permanent public record where anyone could record their position on the issue for posterity, though.

No. This is the United States. People have the right to be wrong. However, they don't have the right to be right.

No, but those with a vested interest in said denial should be prevented from funding contrarian climate "scientific" research as much as possible.

Speech can be controlled if it represents a threat to public safety. Climate change denial does and thus should be banned accordingly

Absolutely not.  People should have the right to believe whatever they want.  If you think they are wrong, more free speech is the solution, not silencing opponents.  Also while the evidence overwhelmingly points to climate change as real, it is not 100%, rather over 95%.  What if someone does some research and the results show it is not changing or natural, banning this would discourage them from publishing it whereas if allowed they would publish it and others could review it and point out any errors or adjust predictions.  Finally what defines climate change denial, does saying climate change is happening but will be less severe than predicted qualify?  This is a dangerous road to go down and something you get in dictatorships not liberal democracies.
