If Kim nukes anything closer to a US ally and especially the United States, people will rally around the president and start approving of Trump, especially among independents. Trump approval ratings would soar even among democrats because he is the one facing an enemy of the United States.

The moment Trump hits 75% approval and we are at war with North Korea, we know the next election is over, and the democrats hopes of not being in shambles after 2018 are too.

I'm flabbergasted at how there are so many fools rooting for a war with NK, a nuclear one at that, just a bit over a decade after our disaster of a war that destroyed our economy, all mostly for political gain. America will end up destroying itself.

Well, of course it would be over.
You can't have a national election if there isn't a nation left for it to be held.

North Korea hardly has a capacity to destroy the U.S. And if Kim pushes the button and U.S. retaliates, I have hard time seeing China or Russia jumping in.

And it's not happening anyway.

The fact that you're panting and waiting for millions to die because that's the only way your fuhrer can get re-elected. Disgusting.

Sure people would feel good for a while, but the world (and US) economy would go into recession while the main tangible result would be boys coming home in body bags... in big numbers. Ask George HW Bush, Harry Truman, Lyndon Johnson etc. how that works out in the long run.

If Kim does someting which leaves Trump with absolutely no choice but to retaliate (like actually attacking SK) Trump's approval ratings will increase, but by 2018 (let alone 2020) people probably will have forgotten it (and Dems probably would be revisioning history and saying that we had a choice not to attack NK). But if Trump is the first to strike it would be a complete disaster electorally. Sure, the US would easily win but Seoul (the capital of a very important US ally...) would be completely destroyed in the proces, and NK would be Trump's Iraq (even though the course of the war would be different).

Out here the local Republicans seem to think "nuclear evacuation planning!" is a winning issue. They've been talking about it for days now.

Kim Jong-un please nuke this thread.

So the only way for our imposter in chief to "get a win" is by threatening nuclear war since he's losing on everything else? He's willing to sacrifice the security of our country and the lives of our brave men and women in the armed forces just so the nation will support him and that means more to his braindead cult followers/base than the consequences of such a nuclear attack? God help us all. These people need to be institutionalized or quarantined along with their demented dictator.

But her emails...

Let's all calm down.  To the OP, it is wrong and idiotic to look at war as an election tool.  Frankly, that goes for everyone who says Trump will start a war for political capital.

We will not go to war.

North Korea is the Donald Trump of countries. They like to talk big, make bold statements, and make people afraid of them. In reality, they're a cowardly, spineless, man-child.

I don't want a war with NK rather see it collapse the way of the USSR, but I don't think Kim does it. Even though I think he's building an H-bomb now, unless he's actually insane, he should realize that if he provokes nuclear war with the US, he and his entire country would be leveled (or vaporized) within 24 hours. That said, I really doubt fat boy does it

The history books will make an excellent read out of this one when Donald Trump spurns his good friend, trusted advisor and elder statesman diplomat, Dennis K. Rodman to take out the greatest threat to the world's continued existence.

Spineless and cowardly? Trump went up against the 2 most formidable political dynasties of our lifetime and destroyed them, then ate them, then pooped them out. He took on not one, but TWO political Establishments and clowned them in front of 80 million people.

Trump is a WINNER, NK is not.

North Korea isn't going to nuke anything, because Kim Jong Un knows that it would be detrimental to his country. Your sick fantasy of getting Trump re-elected is never going to happen.

Kim won't last 20 more years. His country will collapse on its own due to his incompetance and i think the military is actually getting fed up with him a bit. Although it is a dangerous situation having a fat kid in complete control over a nuclear armed country. But really, 20 years and North Korea will collapse and Iran will change drastically too

Most evidence suggests it's the military that started the hardline policy after Kim Jong Il's stroke in 2008, and he was the main moderate in the government until his death a few years later. One has to think if Jong Un's father Kim Jong Il or even his grandfather Kim Il Sung were there today they'd urge moderation.

Several months ago I read an article where some Trump voters were interviewed, and many of them indicated that they will switch their votes to someone else if Trump started another war.

What's more likely is that military escalation leads to Trump running around in circles, making poorly executed decisions or leaving generals awaiting his next tweet that the US military effectively bypass him and stage their own contained coup.

Nobody needs a war more than a politician with low approvals.

Ug. We're screwed.

War with Russia and/or in the Middle East again.
