Since The Arizonan wanted to know how you can make a coin ship appear in Super Mario Bros 3, I though I'd start this thread. Here's a video that provides an explanation for the appearance of the coin ship.

I didn't remember it off the top of my head (though it sounded like something back in the fog), but seeing the video reminded me that I had in fact played the level before so I'm sure I got it on accident a time or two.  The "trick" was kind of complicated.


SMB3 is my favorite side scroller of all time.  I'm of a certain age.

The "trick" was kind of complicated.

And it wasn't evened published anywhere. As at the time that game was released the Internet wasn't invented (or rather not opened to the public) yet I don't know how anybody could discover that secret (unless you worked for Nintendo or knew somebody who did).

I was five or six when I first played it and that was around 1990.

     Kudos. I wasn't even born yet, but I have to say that SMB3 is legendary.
