ok, so assume Gore wins the case and they keep counting in FL, and he wins. By 2004, he is incredibly popular , partially due to 9/11, but also because of his healthcare progress. Pick a nominee, and do a map.

I would have guessed the twelve year itch would screw Gore over before I read the description, but if Gore is popular, he probably wins re-election. In any case, whatever poor bastard the Democrats put up in 2008 gets massacred.

Gore loses, because his refusal to invade Afghanistan brings him down from his high after 9/11 faster than Bush did.

McCain beats him in a squeaker, then loses in 2008 to Hillary/Obama.

I have a couple of scenarios for this actually.

First of all, lets say the Republicans nominate George W. Bush again, still immensely popular with the Republican Party.

Pres. Al Gore / Vice Pres. Joe Lieberman - 363 EVs
Gov. George W. Bush (R-TX) / Sen. Elizabeth Dole (R-NC) - 175 EVs

Closest States
Nevada - 0.29%
Arizona - 0.44%
Georgia - 0.73%
Arkansas - 1.06%
Montana - 1.15%
Louisiana - 1.30%

McCain, the runner-up for the nomination in 2000, wins the nomination in 2004.

Pres. Al Gore (D-TN) / Vice Pres. Joe Lieberman (D-CT) - 327 EVs
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) / Fmr. Gov. Christine Todd Whitman (R-NJ) - 200 EVs

Closest States
Arkansas - 0.09%
Indiana - 0.16%
New Mexico - 0.21%
Oregon - 0.49%
Colorado - 0.79%
Wisconsin - 0.88%
New Hampshire - 1.04%

Gore is able to win states like Arkansas with hawkish foreign policy after 9/11 and inoffensive policies that don't scare away the blue collar voter.
