President Obama, to eveyone's surprise, decides to retire after only one term. Vice President Joe Biden is nominated and Mitt Romney wins the Republica nomination as IRL. You pick the VPs.

If Obama isn't running, there's a problem... Romney, in addition to picking up Indiana and North Carolina IRL, adds Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, New Hampshire and Wisconsin to win the White House.

Virginia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Wisconsin, Michigan, Nevada and Florida are the closest states.

I don't know. I suspect that, against Biden, Romney runs with Condi Rice, Portman, or Sandoval, or maybe even Paul or Haley. Biden probably picks Deval Patrick.
