I could totally imagine, if Bernie doesn't run, a random House member like Jayapal (or even somebody elected in 2018) inheriting a large chunk of his coalition.

People who remember that far back, how long did Bachmann telegraph her intentions to run in 2012?

I didn't follow politics back then, but according to Wikipedia's article on her campaign, speculation started in early 2011.

It was earlier than that.  She did a trip to Iowa in April 2010, for example:

And even before that, she said back in August 2009 that she would be willing to run for president some day if God told her to:

I don't think Jayapal is eligible?

Martin O'Malley would have a better shot, now has increased name recognition and can unify liberal and establishment dems. Don't sleep on John Hickenlooper, Roy Cooper, or Tim Ryan either.

Who would John Hickenlooper possibly appeal to? Also, the establishment Dems are the liberals.

I could see a lot of moderates, establishment, and marijuana voters get behind him.

Dark Horse

I'd would go with Tulsi Gabbard, though I think a lot of damage has been done to her.

Eric Garcetti, he's flirting with the idea and he has a good political background to make a run for it.

And, Al Franken. Now I don't know if he really wants to make that run, but I think a lot of people find him relatable and one who could look great in debates while forming a the progressive message that the Left has been looking for.

Joe Kennedy 3, Seth Moulton, Kyrsten Sinema, Chris Murphy, and Martin Heinrich are five who I could see break out. People like Sherrod Brown, Amy Klobuchar, Kirsten Gillibrand, and Joaquin Castro aren't front-runners, but to me they aren't truly dark horses either.

As a Trump supporter I'd love to see Bill DeBlasio be the nominee so Trump could win in a landslide.
