I wonder if people who remembered the Civil War dying off helped make Civil Rights happen. The reason I wonder about this is that I'm under the impression that resentment over the Civil War was the primary motivation for Jim Crow.

I doubt it, the Civil War Ended in 1865 and the Civil Rights movement didnt start until about the 1950s. I really doubt there were that many 90+ year old people. Although yes, the Civil War and Reconstruction did factor into Jim Crow as the Dixiecrats were desperate to hold on to power. Its unlikely they really needed Jim Crow to win though since they were getting Stalinesque numbers at the polls like 90%+ in the deep south

I think people who remembered trying to find work in the Great Depression dying off really helped neoliberalism circa the 1990s.

Thank you. I wasn't looking for a GI vs Boomer discussion.

The hilarious thing about that non-sequiter too is that tariffs actually greatly worsened the Depression (Smoot-Hawley anyone?) FDR actually campaigned on lifting the tarriffs and expanding free trade, which he did.

Actually, it's spelt "non sequitur". If you're using a term like that, you should at least know how to spell it.

Catching others misspellings doesn't make you smart.
