So there are going to be several millions of us traveling (or not) to see the eclipse.  There are worries of wild fires, rattlesnakes and not enough food/water in Oregon.  There are going to thousands stuck in traffic for many hours in strange, out of the way places.  Gas stations out of gas, ATM out of cash, cell networks overloaded....ya know, the usual sh**t that happens in emergencies.

So, either people are going to die or I'm buying into the fearmongering.  What do you guys think?

I voted 0-3. Perhaps more will die not as a direct result of the eclipse, but as an indirect result of driving to see it (e.g., killed in a car accident).

In contrast, hundreds of additional people in the US (more than in adjoining years) were killed in car accidents (and who knows how many thousands were injured) in the weeks and months immediately following 9/11/2001.

One should really be more worried about the thousands of people who will suffer eye damage for not wearing proper eye protection.

Shortly before midnight, Oregon State Police said the backup on Highway 26 was 30 miles. The Big Summit Prairie, an eclipse festival in the middle of the Ochoco National Forest, begins Thursday and is expected to attract 30,000 visitors.
