Probably true, he'll be 74 this year.  (Note: it's Bredesen, not Breseden.)

If he wanted to run for something, why wouldn't he run for Governor again? Term limits there aren't absolute; they reset after four years. Running for a state office in an open race seems like a much better bet than running for national office against a reasonably entrenched incumbent.

Edit: I guess the Dems have two strong candidates in that race already. But, if Bredesen seriously wanted to run (which I highly doubt; speaking entirely as a hypothetical here), I feel like they'd step aside for him or switch to the Senate race.

No. There are younger former U.S. Reps. from TN that can run but they are unlikely to move from their prestigious, high-paying law firm positions.

Also first term senators rarely go above 65, let alone 73.

Yeah. Strickland would have been the oldest, elected Freshman in Senate history.
