It seems a bit tacky to discuss the storm in the "how will Trump respond" tread, so I thought I'd make a different one where we can discuss non-political issues, such as current forecasts and events, and we can continue with discussions on FEMA and statements from the administration in the other thread.

My thoughts go out to all of you who are in affected areas. Be safe and prepare for what comes in your way.

Thanks for creating this thread. I mention the same concerns over in the other thread. This is a major storm that is seriously threatening lives and people over there are worrying about politics. Like seriously guys

It isn't too from from landfall, it just became a category 4, there have already been tornadoes formed, and this is just the beginning of what looks to be a week long storm.

That eye just looks better and better with each frame. Really terrified of what's gonna happen to everyone down in Texas. This could be the first category 4 to hit since Hurricane Charlie in 2004. If you don't know how bad it was look at the pictures from punta gorda. It blasted buildings apart

Holy sh*t it could potentially become a Category 5 if it keeps moving slowly.

Highly unlikely. It just now reached Category 4 status, it has only about 5 hours remaining before landfall, and the pressure isn't dropping as rapidly now. Aside from that, Texas is fortunate that it's making landfall in a low-population area. But the worst affects from this storm will unquestionably be the rainfall, which could reach unimaginable levels.

It won't. It's already ashore.

The storm has officially stalled with the eye still out in open waters, pressure continues to fall indicating intensification still occurring.

The eyewall has, not the gemometric center. In any case, there's no chance it will strengthen to a 5.

Building legitimately exploded around him then the pieces flew away. I've never seen a storm like this that wasn't a tornado. Really hoping there's nobody in Rockport or all of Aransas county for that matter

The fire chief in Rockport (Aransas County's county seat) said 65% evacuated if I'm recalling correctly.

I don't know how many tornadoes the average hurricane produces but there have been a lot of warnings from NWS for areas all up and down the coast on the Reuters feed this evening.

Are such summer storms common in the US?
Anyway, I really hope it won't cause too much damage and everyone stays safe.
