The real undemocratic system is FPP, of course.

I hope everyone complaining about RCV also complains equally as much about Georgia and Louisiana's runoff systems because the two are pretty much identical in concept, it's just with Georgia and Louisiana you have to have the voters go to the polls a second time instead of doing it all on one sheet of paper.

I don’t like the LA/GA system either. Just run a normal primary then hold the general. There’s no need to make the general essentially a clown car primary

There are a couple of reasons, actually, including cost, convenience, and better upholding democracy (due to the fact that turnout tends to drop off a lot in the runoff.

It's really hard to see why people would have a problem with RCV. Sure, you can make a case why maybe it's not necessary in the 45 - 49.99% range, but there are definitely instances where it's preferable when you get even further down. Do we really want a bunch of candidate splitting the vote and letting some candidate slip by who the voters would probably not approve of in a head-to-head? This is even more true for primaries, and top-two states like CA should never have implemented it without RCV.

But hey, whatever floats their boats.

Yeah, I don’t get why Republicans are getting so worked up over this result, it was always obvious that RCV would help Golden here. Sure, he’s a strong candidate, but beating a flawed incumbent by 1% in a massive Democratic wave doesn’t mean that he won’t be very vulnerable in a more favorable year for Republicans.

I got no doubt we take him out in 2020. I’m just not sure who we run here. I doubt LePage wants to be a congressman

2020 is not going to be a "more favorable year for Republicans".

It will be another medium Democratic wave election, just like 2018 was.

LePage lives in either the first district or Florida in 2020 so...

Garrett Mason is a name to watch. Young, affable, more than conservative enough. He also got more clean elections money than Sweet did in the primary.

But because he’s more religious right than Tea Party or Trumpist, he may struggle if, I dunno, Scott D’Amboise runs.

That last matrix is quite interesting.  It looks like Hoar was the 2nd choice for most Bond voters and vice-versa.

Dat blue in North Aroostook.

Golden also did better in Oxford County (border with NH) than I expected.

He spent a lot of time campaigning up in the Rumford area. Glad to see that paid off. I'm surprised he did so well in the Fryeburg area though. When I went to the fair last month, I didn't see many of his signs at all and the Democratic booth didn't have any visitors while the Republican booth was surrounded.

Good to see the beautiful, historically and ecologically rich Penobscot Bay area as the heart and soul of Golden Country.

Anyway gj to golden beating an incumbent in a double digit trump district trending republican. With the environment on November I'd say it was tougher than what Cunningham did

D'Amboise is a far-right tea-party "constitutional conservative". If such candidate can beat Golden - Democratic perspectives in this district must be extremely bleak.

So: Ken Fredette, outgoing House GOP leader and quixotic candidate for Governor, has publicly called on Poliquin to stop his legal challenge to the results.

What does he possibly hope to gain from this? Or is he still in the bargaining stage?
