But that could mean anything. My family's roots are in the Valley of Mexico. My roots are considerably more purely indigenous than your typical Mexican "mestizo", and it's noticeable - a lot of Mexicans in the U.S. consider themselves to be white, but I never have.

I mean, races are social constructs and society is constantly redefining what different races are. So Hispanic is a de facto race (and so is Middle Eastern and North African, I guess).

Race is a social construct and biologically arbitrary, so I can choose to identify how I like. Being black doesn't mean the same thing in the United States as it does in South Africa, for example. I choose not to take on a particular racial identity and just identify as human. And since most of you haven't seen what I look like, I have an easier time doing that.  But even if you did, it would still be unclear to most Tongue. I'm not saying people who do identify with a race are wrong to do that. It's just me.
