Statement on the Mandalay Bay Shooting

My fellow Atlasians:

As you all know by now, on Sunday night, a very horrible incident took place outside of the Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas, where an evil man whose name will not be mentioned (for the sole reason that we should not grant him any fame for his actions) shot and killed 59 people, and injured at least 527 others.

I cannot even begin to express how sickened I am to have heard this news, and I cannot even begin to imagine the pain the loved ones of those who have passed or are being treated for their injuries. I want to personally offer my deepest prayers and condolences you all, and wish you the peace, love, and healing that is needed to help you through this terrible time.

I also want to note to my fellow Atlasian politicians, that now is not the time for making assumptions, and making this into a highly political issue. Let the authorities finish their investigation. We should not let this incident further divide us. Let us get the facts first, and work together on solutions to ensure that incidents like this do not  happen again. In the meantime, do what you can to assist those who are currently in need. Donate and work with charities who pledge to build funds for affected families, donate blood, volunteer for organizations that work with the hospitals such as reading to children, offering companionship to those without loved ones, etc. Be the example of a strong and united Atlasia.

And last, but certainly not least, hold your loved ones close tonight. And when you do, please think of those who are no longer able to do so.

Don't forget to submit a redraft without section 2.  That way we can just have both houses vote on it again without going through the procedural stuff.

Madam President, pursuant to Article V, Section 1 of the Fourth Constitution, the Governor of Lincoln has nominated and the Lincoln Assembly has confirmed a nominee for Lincoln Associate Justice.

Also pursuant to Article V, Section 1 of the Constitution, this nomination requires either your assent or veto.

In light of the horrific allegations about the mass execution of defenseless citizens in Saudi Arabia, I am hereby ordering an immediate suspension of all foreign aid, including military aid, to Saudi Arabia pending a full investigation into the matter. I am also using my authority to freeze all Saudi assets in Atlasia. We will not stand idly by if Atlasian weapons are being used to butcher the innocent.

I will be appointing a special commission within the next 48 hours to discover the truth or falsity of these monstrous allegations. I will also be calling on the Saudi ambassador to Atlasia to meet and coordinate with this Commission, and provide whatever evidence is necessary to discover the truth. If these allegations are false, full cooperation by the Saudis is a necessity to ensure that their aid is restored and their assets unfrozen. We do not wish to treat an ally unfairly, but we will not contribute to a genocide.

I hereby appoint Secretary of State Reactionary, Former Secretary of State Snowguy, and Representative Peebs to the special committee to investigate the alleged events that have taken place in Saudi Arabia. I urge the Saudi ambassador to Atlasia to meet and coordinate with this committee, and provide whatever evidence is necessary to determine what exactly has happened, and determine whether these allegations are true or false. Once we have an understanding of the situation, I will be working closely with Secretary of State Reactionary to determine what our plan will be going forward as far as our relations with our Saudi allies.
