Much as I like Barnes, this resolution is long overdue.  He has not posted anything since August 19th, he's missed a number of important votes, and there is an amendment on the floor to one of his bills that he still has not acted on.  As such, I urge my colleagues to vote for the expulsion of Senator Barnes so that his seat may be occupied by someone who can be more present and active.

Not only as the prime minister for my region, but as someone who likes the senator personally, voted for him, and hoped that he would remain active, I must unfortunately agree with the president pro tempore that this action is necessary.

As most of you know, this is neither the first nor second time Atlasia has to deal with the same problem. Seriously, unless there's a RL emergency, what's so hard about simply posting a LOA or resigning if you don't want to or can't participate anymore?

I very much like Senator Barnes as a person, and feel that when he is present, he does great work. In fact, he was one of the many examples I looked to when doing research on the position of Secretary of Internal Affairs and determining how the office should run when I was presented with the appointment.

That being said, inactivity is a terrible thing that cannot be ignored. It is one of the most important aspects of the game and is necessary to keep things running smoothly. Inactivity has cost us countless potentially great officeholders at all levels, and is such an easy thing to avoid.

I trust that the Senate will make the right decision when placing their votes, and hope that if this ends with the expulsion of Senator Barnes, that his replacement will pick things back up and see the importance of remaining active in office so that this issue can be avoided in the future.

Senator Barnes is a good citizen and an effective Senator when he is active. Sadly, he has disappeared and his constituents deserve someone present to represent their will. I wish he would remain active, but considering the circumstances I will be voting to expel him.

The question on expulsion of Senator Barnes is put.  Senators, please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

While I do agree with my fellow Senators that game activity is important, I also believe that real life should always take precedence. In addition, if PiT were to be confirmed as Vice President and Barnes were to be expelled, then there would be two simultaneous vacancies in the Senate. I believe that this prospect should be avoided, as we have already had trouble filling certain government positions with those who aren't already serving in other governmental positions, evidenced by the recent appointment of Fremont Prime Minister Harry S. Truman to the Atlasian Congress. Therefore, for the reasons outlined above, I vote NAY.

Having acquired the 2/3 majority necessary for passage, the resolution is agreed to and Barnes is expelled from the Atlasian Senate.
