Point of departure is after Ike's 1955 heart attack. He announces that, for health reasons, he won't seek reelection.

Does Nixon win the GOP primary? Does the Dem one still have Stevenson and Kefauver as the main candidates or do more people run due to the open seat?

How are the big issues changed? Does the (watered-down and toothless) Civil Rights Act of 1957 still pass? How would 50s Nixon or Stevenson differ from Ike re the Cold War?

I think you'd have four one termers in a row

I think Stevenson might beat Nixon.

Nixon try's again in '60 and wins.

JFK tries in 64 and wins. 8 full years.

Johnson, Ford, Carter and Reagan never make the White House.

Nixon gets the GOP nomination in 1956, unless Ike works behind the scenes to deprive him of it (Ike supposedly wasn't a fan of Nixon). The Democratic field might be more crowded witH Ike not running, so Stevenson might not even get nominated if someone stronger emerges. I'd say Nixon or whoever the GOP nominates has the edge in the general and probably wins 1960 by the skin of their teeth with incumbency advantage (after all, Nixon almost won 1960 in real life and neither candidate was a sitting president).

Ford was born in 1913.  Would he really have been chosen as a running mate in '84, kept on the ticket in '88, and then elected in his own right in '92?

Maybe KP would prefer Christine Todd Whitman.

Nixon probably wins the nomination but loses to Stevenson pretty handidly.

The 1957 Civil Rights Act probably still passes.

President Stevenson would probably be competent on the Cold War question but I'm not enough of an expert to say how different his foreign policy would have been from Ike's.

A Romney/Huntsman ticket would be hilarious as Huntsman is actually the one person I think that Mitt Romney actually hates.

Nixon gets elected in 1956, but unseated by JFK in 1960. That's it.
