Apparently, Murphy is facing a quite credible opponent.  Any chance this could be a sleeper race to watch in a wave?

I mean if Assaultforte could win his election I don't see why Murphy couldn't. I suppose its possible.

He should be fine, imo. He didn't make a crazy big deal about it and it's really nothing extraordinary in politics at this point.

Bob Casey has it lucky, his entire competition is full of bumbling idiots and the best the GOP can throw at him is Lou Freaking Barletta.

When I read the title I assumed the"close friend" was male and THAT would have been much more interesting story.

Costello and the Fitzpatrick brothers might beg to differ.

Surely this is enough to at least make Murphy vulnerable (assuming he doesn't just end up resigning/not seeking re-election): http://www.post-gazette.com/news/politics-nation/2017/10/03/rep-tim-Murphy-pro-life-sought-abortion-affair-shannon-edwards-susan-mosychuk-pennsylvania-chief-of-staff-congress-emails-texts/stories/201710030018

This definitely changes it a little bit. Just goes to show the hypocrisy of a lot of our elected officials.

Lot of pro-life Catholics in WPA who won't look kindly on this

Well yeah. My friends interning on Capitol Hill say a  ton of puboicly homophobic Republican Congresspeople and their staffers are secretly gay (which isn't really even a big secret) and you have Democrats who spent most their careers bashing lucrative professions only turn around and soak up all the money once out of office.

Lol why am I not surprised

Didn't stop him from voting in favor of the 20 week abortion ban today! At least DesJarlais was conveniently out of town.

Reminder that when Republicans say they want restricted access to abortion they really mean restricted access for poor people.

No, that's not what we mean.  No one should ever be allowed to kill their baby under any circumstances, period.

Okay, but that's clearly not the case given the GOP's unwavering support for DesJarlais and (presumably) now Murphy.

That's why a ton of conservatives support DesJarlais's primary opponent each cycle.  But, ultimately, the abortion policy will effect far more people than the disgusting character of a member of Congress.  I would much rather a hypocrite who will vote the right way than a principled person who will kill a million babies a year with their vote.

Disgraceful. He should resign (he won't, ofc). I hope he loses.

I don't talk about abortion much, but I've stated before many times that I'm pro-life and this is unacceptable to me.

Same goes w/ DesJarlais who I have passionately opposed for years.

How can you look yourself in the mirror and say that you are pro-life and do try to pressure a woman to abort? Disgusting on so many levels.

Hard to believe this district was once one of the most reliable Democratic districts outside the Philadelphia metro. Doubling down on cultural conservatism was very rewarding to the GOP in the short-term. A culturally conservative, pro-fracking Democrat might be able to win here though.
