Hard to believe this district was once one of the most reliable Democratic districts outside the Philadelphia metro. Doubling down on cultural conservatism was very rewarding to the GOP in the short-term. A culturally conservative, pro-fracking Democrat might be able to win here though.

I prefer to focus on districts that can be won by a Democrat who doesn't completely suck, of which there are many.

Lot of pro-life Catholics in WPA who won't look kindly on this

They all voted for Trump. They won't care about personal behavior if he votes as they like.

This definitely changes it a little bit. Just goes to show the hypocrisy of a lot of our elected officials.

Well yeah. My friends interning on Capitol Hill say a  ton of puboicly homophobic Republican Congresspeople and their staffers are secretly gay (which isn't really even a big secret) and you have Democrats who spent most their careers bashing lucrative professions only turn around and soak up all the money once out of office.

Was it Lil' Marco? Gay escorts make an absolute killing at the RNC's. I remember reading accounts of escorts mentioning that in 2016, a lot of extremely religious RNC delegates had their first gay experience. Some had been wanting to do it for a really long time and finally gave in to their secret urges.

I also think he should resign, though he most likely won't.

Strike him from the potential statewide candidates list.

He's retiring after this term

http://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2017/10/04/congressman-tim-murphy-affair-abortion-retirement-reports/

Some of the precincts in Allegheny/Washington did trend to Dems last year, but overall this should be Likely/Safe R.

That makes for an even 40 retirements so far, I think.

And the Democrat running here, Conor Lamb, is really strong and stands a good chance at flipping the seat while the Republican is a buffoon.

Isn't there immediately an election in November 2018 after the one in March. If Lamb loses, he can run again and by then the PA Supreme Court will have ordered new districts.
