I hope Meehan and Kelly follow suit, making the Republicans have to defend 4 (5 with Marino?) open seats in PA while also trying to unseat an incumbent Senator and Governor.

One of the best Republicans, who remained, and whom i always supported. Pity. Degradation continues...

Tossup, though if Democrats win the seat in 2018 Republicans will have a good chance of taking it back in 2020

Wish list of retirements:

-Ileana Ros-Lehtien, FL-27
-Dave Reichert, WA-08
Charlie Dent, PA-15

-Ed Royce, CA-39
-Frank LoBiondo, NJ-02
-Leonard Lance, NJ-07

This becomes a must-win for Dems if you want any chance at a house majority next congress. This is the type of light red open seat you simply must pick up

I think Ds are probably favored honestly in this seat, open seats tend to react more to national environment then challenger - incumbent races.

If Ds can't sweep WA-8, FL-27, and PA-15 I doubt there is a path to a majority barring numerous other retirements (though that is hardly impossible given recent days!)

IMHO, depends on a candidate. If Republicans nominate someone like Dent, he will be a favorite, if "winger" - Democrats will gave good chance..

A LoBiondo retirement would be great.  I'd also like to see at least some combination of Pat Meehan, Ryan Costello, Peter King, Brian Fitzpatrick (btw why is he currently unopposed?), the Congressman who represents Syracuse, French Hill, David Joyce, Mike Turner, Rodney Davis, Kevin Yoder, Sean Duffy, David Valadao, and Erik Paulson retire.

And don't forget trying to unseat Cartwright in PA-17. It seems too tempting of a target for the GOP to pass up on, considering Trump won it by 10%.

This district should be Republican enough to get a real Republican in there, even in a lean-D national environment.

It's only R+4.

Oof! He was the GOP's only hope of ever winning another senate seat in PA.
If he could even win the primary (I doubt he would), I bet a lot of conservatives, especially those who are pro-lifers and/or Trumpists, would either stay home, vote third party, or even defect to Casey. This isn't Hotelling's model, where you race to the center to win, winning these days is really about firing up the base (and keeping them on your side).

The bolded aren't conservatives.

Safe R -> Lean R.

WA-08 went to Tossup or even Lean D due to its vacancy, but this seat is Lean R even as an open seat. It's winnable for Dems, but an uphill climb.

The amount of Republican powerhouses and moderates retiring should terrify the GOP. Where are they going to get more candidates like Ileana-Ros and Dent to run for and secure those districts?

Dent resigning would force a special election in the extremely marginal philly suburbs just as the midterm campaign is ramping up... nightmare for the GOP.

If he's looking to pull a Chaffetz, which is what this looks like, I don't think it indicates all that much...

Morganelli would make this a near insta-pickup in this environment.
