Not too surprising. He always seemed uncomfortable when talking about Trump.

Assuming his successor is a Republican, I'd hope it would be another Eastern Tennessee pragmatist known for bipartisanship. Unfortunately, that breed might be extinct. The Lugar Center puts all of Tennessee's Republican delegation in negative territory. Haslam could run, but he was at one point a Never Trumper, and I doubt he wants to.

Blackburn would appear to be the frontrunner as of now, as bad as that may sound.

Potential Candidates:

Marsha Blackburn (probably the most likely at this point)
Bill Haslam (I doubt he runs, but he would be formidable, but not invincible if he does)
Mark Green (maybe he will reconsider now that Corker is out)
Peyton Manning (who knows, really)
Joe Carr (he runs for something every cycle, but never wins anything)

Andy Berke is probably the likely Democratic nominee at this point.  Clay Travis is a wildcard, but he will likely run as an independent, so he likely won't matter.

Andy Ogles is already running for the GOP nomination, but I don't think he is a big enough name to have much of a shot.

Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Just saying, an open TN race may be more competitive than a Cruz-held TX race.

Maybe, but who can Democrats run? And I'd wager the open governor's seat is more appealing to strong candidates because it's more winnable than an open Senate seat.

Easy answer is you push Fitzhugh or Dean out of the gov race and into the senate one—avoid the cost of a primary, decent shot for both now that it's an open seat.

Hey give the man some credit. He was against every single bill that gave people even a hint of relief from crushing medical costs, he wants to bomb every Muslim nation in the Middle East, and when the VW plant workers in Chattanooga tried to unionize, he did everything in his power to kill the effort. He was just as god-awful as you can hope any Republican to be.

DesJarlais would make the race a toss up in the general.

wut.

the dude literally forced his Mistress to get abortions yet people like ExtremeRepublican will still vote for him because they think Democrats are the spawns of Satan. And Tennessee is full of those people.
He would be like TN's Roy Moore. The base will vote for him simply because the establishment hates him.

We need some primaries to build interest in the party, have more opportunities to get their name recognition up.

Why would Blackburn run when she's become quite a force in the House? Wouldn't Haslam be more likely, or is he eager to return to private life?

Corker is hardly above anyone that could replace him. Blackburn has never run an ad like the "Call Me, Harold" mess.

There's a glass ceiling for women in the Republican run House. Even when they hold nominal positions of authority, they are excluded from power.
