No date certain given for the transition to electric only but this is a huge development. It will give US automakers more incentive to invest and start earlier mass production of electric vehicles due to the immense Chinese population and demand. The key here will be infrastructure, i.e., charging stations instead of gas stations, better roads but they are already ahead of the US there as well http://insideevs.com/china-build-nationwide-charging-network-capable-supporting-5-million-electric-cars/

Scotland passed this a week or two ago too.

I just wonder what the replacement will be since CNG isn't much better, and electric isn't affordable yet and take times to recharge.

I'll keep my truck, guns, and freedom, and you can keep the change.

An authoritarian state is now more progressive on climate change than a democracy.

Think about that.

You say that as if progressives (or banning things) were not authoritarians.

And, um, Yugoslavia was more "progressive"/left wing on economics than a democracy. So?

Authoritarian states are not necessarily regressive in nature. Nor is there anything inherent in democracy that does not prevent it from being more conservative.

Should have been done decades ago by all the major powers.
