Hi Poirot, if you need a true justification for emergency, the city of Jacksonville has requested that we clear out quickly as they are trying to recover from Hurricane Irma, thus we have agreed to speed things up on their behalf. As for why we didn't move the Convention, Jacksonville still wanted our money and our money that we paid for the convention will help the city of Jacksonville recover from the Hurricane, thanks for understanding and be sure to donate to the effort!

I am very concerned about this aberration from our party's schedule per our bylaws and this explanation is only making me more confused

Until just a couple of days ago, every member of our party was operating under the assumption that the October convention would, you know, be in October? This justification for the emergency does not make sense because why would we immediately decide to hold our convention weeks early, AFTER that city had already been hit by a hurricane? Do you have a source where the game moderator has mentioned the decisions of the Jacksonville local government on this issue, or even anything mentioned about hurricane Irma at all?

Why would we go to Jacksonville early, knowing it had been hit by a hurricane? If the city wanted our money, wouldn't they advise us to hold the convention at the time we are scheduled to hold it?

This seems like circular logic - we had to declare an emergency and move the convention forward because of the situation at our convention location that we have to deal with because we decided to move the convention forward?

I joined this party because I thought it stood for the rule of law, but this peculiar convention is causing me to worry I have made the wrong choice. There appears to be no actual emergency that would require the convention to be rushed and held so far in advance and I don't understand any sort of reasoning why this happened.

I feel that this is unfair to me as a new member, that I am now not allowed to participate in a convention that shouldn't be happening until two weeks after I joined? I wanted to run as a Federalist candidate for the legislature, and I think I could have campaigned well and delivered our party a new seat. Why have I been excluded and what "emergency" is denying me the ability to serve my party and country?

Lol. Rando lefty Adam Griffin cheerleader conveniently joins a party immediately after a rule change, then proceeds to complain that said party is being unfair to him because of the rule change that predated his membership. Is there a reason you didn't register until (seemingly) the moment you found out you couldn't vote in the primary? Were you aware of the primary and just sitting around waiting for the last possible moment to register or something? That doesn't sound like someone with a sincere interest in the Federalist Party. I don't see how this change is particularly unfair to a poster who the party did not even know was interested in crossing over, due to that poster's deliberate decision to not register.

I don't want to air dirty laundry in public but in recent months Adam and I stopped seeing eye to eye and had a bit of a falling out. That's why, as you may have noticed, I almost stopped participating in Atlasia completely not too long ago.

Honestly I have joined the Federalists, in large part, because of the influence of several friends from #southernchat in IRC that I've become close with recently. I also greatly respect the Federalists's efforts at game reform to promote Atlasia and help it to thrive. I've invested years into this game and I'm tired of seeing "establishment" parties that stay in power, essentially, by finding a status quo that puts them in charge and then sucking the fun out of the game, keeping new people from joining because it upsets the apple cart.

I've invested a decade into this game, I want to see it live!

I've expressed interest in joining several times to dfwlibertylover and others, and in fact, late last night dfw directly urged me to join as soon as possible because he was worried future registrations might be restricted in some manner (I wasn't clear on the details). I decided to take the plunge and join, and here I am Smiley

I am interested in participating in both the convention and the primary because I'd like to take an active role in the new party that I'm excited to join. I've already been collaborating with several Federalists with regards to a potential lawsuit that I might file, so I'm not exactly all by myself. Smiley With regards to the primary, I am undecided because I very much like both candidates, I am leaning towards oakvale at the moment but honestly I want to wait until after the debate to make up my mind for sure.

I'll admit I jumped the gun, the circumstances didn't seem to add up and I assumed the worst. When I made that post I was concerned NCYankee had acted specifically to stop my participation but I suppose that was just paranoia. Him and I have a long and checkered history and I feared he didn't want me to join. Honestly I look up to the guy and I have ever since we were in the Senate together some eight years ago. A major appeal of joining the Federalist Party for me, in all honestly, is for us to finally be on the same side. I suppose honestly I'm just upset at myself for not registering sooner.

I am the one who tracked Hurricane Irma in game with full permission from the GM, so yeah I'm aware, the options that were presented were to move the primary up and then hold the rules stuff in Boston,MA (which may also be hit by a TS), or postpone all of that, we are still in the process of deciding. Thanks for the fun logical mind games dear.

Thank you for the info! I was unaware Irma was simulated in-game. I was only suspicious because your explanation confused me, any mind games I played were on myself. If you don't understand what I was trying to point out then I must have misinterpreted your post.

Nay

edit: I have added a statement if that is acceptable:

These accusations against oakvale are slanderous and absurd. If we truly have the best interests of our party in mind, surely we should be seeking to build unity among our ranks?

Instead I just see someone tearing down our party for the sake of a petty and divisive grudge - even digging up chat logs from three years ago, literally grasping at straws to fulfill this bizarre personal vendetta! This sort of witch hunt is far more toxic than whatever absurd claims you're making about oakvake. We as a party are supposed to be atlasia's stable voice of reason in these troubling times - can we please NOT devolve into literal Stalinists?

If we open this can of worms and start purging dutiful party members, where does it end? Am I next? fhtagn? NCYankee?? Leinad himself?? Do note, even Robespierre was ultimately murdered by his own reign of terror

I humbly ask that all "aye" voters please reconsider, regardless what you think about oakvale in particular, and think seriously about what the long term repercussions of this vote will hold for our party.

This is a dangerous and slippery slope we currently face before us and I don't want to see our great party fall so low. If we take this step there's no going back.

Even if Oakvale could be legally expelled from the party (which i seriously doubt) there's legally absolutely nothing that could legally bar him from joining the party as a new member. Even if one accepts this sham vote as legitimate, he could immediately reregister as a Federalist and join anew as a full member of the party in good standing. In fact out of an abundance of caution I encourage my friend oakvale to post his party affiliation in the registration thread right now so there is absolutely no legal question about his membership.
