Seems Iceland lacks a right-wing populist party like most of Europe. Even though i guess the Progressive Party has alot of voters that would probably vote for a DPP type party

The Icelandic National Front would be the closest thing to parties like the FN, AfD, PVV, etc. Although they only received .16% of the vote in 2016.

It is quite amazing to me that we might see the Progressive Party, which has been around since 1919, suffer its worst result in history due to the split with Gunnlaugsson. The best it can do is barely cling to a couple of seats. But there's also a chance it could be wiped from Parliament for the first time since the party's inception.

How... are people even still voting for IP given the reason this election is happening?

Didn't the scandal just involve the PM's father, not the PM himself?

(Not trying to be confrontational.  Actually wondering because the whole situation is a little confusing)

The conflict seems to be about how the PM knew about the letter months ago but did not divulge its contents. Bjarni says that if he revealed it earlier, it would have been illegal. But the other coalition parties viewed it as a breach of trust.
