NOVA (Fairfax, Arlington, and all the independent cities in the area) is very democratic. PW/Loudon have been gradually moving leftward too.

Richmond and Hampton Roads, meanwhile, are less liberal than NOVA. Mostly democratic city cores but Republican suburbs.

Charlottesville is also liberal, and the GOP definitely took a deep hit there with Trump's reaction to last month's events.

Blacksburg is another college town that's more conservative than Charlottesville but still pretty liberal compared to the rest of rural Virginia.

All the other cities are small. Democratic in the center urban areas and more moderate as you go out. The rural areas are very conservative.

Demographics tend to vote slightly to the left of the country as a whole.
