Will Charlie Crist (Democrat from Florida-13) win reelection? The former Republican governor who switched parties won a close contest in the district near Tampa in 2016. Will get another term in 2018?

I say yes. The national environment favors him, but not sure how long he can hold on if a Democrat returns to the White House.

he'll hold the seat for as long as he wants it

his most credible republican opponents are either running for other office (latvala, baker) or have been thoroughly excommunicated by party leadership (jolly)

Overwhelming yes.   He's very popular in his district.

He finally won something again so I assume he'll hold on to that seat for dear life.

Charlie Crist, in all of his races, has never lost Pinellas County. Not even in 2010 when he ran as an independent. He will host this seat for as long as he wants. You just can't beat retail Charlie.

Edit: I take that back, he lost it in his 1998 Senate race against Bob Graham. But it was Bob Graham so come on.

Yes. He beat David Jolly, who is not a weak candidate.

Crist will keep that seat as long as he wants it, especially after the court-ordered rereredistricting last year.

Crist is safe for '18 and '20. Obviously it's impossible to know if he'll get screwed or not in the next round of redistricting.

The question isn't will he win re-election...it's will he run as a Democrat, Independent or Green?

I doubt redistricting will become an issue for Crist. There's really no way to change the shape of the district.

The GOP could try to cross the bay again,  although that would clearly go against the court order.

This is precisely why Florida needs an independent redistricting panel. Amendments 5 & 6 didn't do enough.

Somewhere down the road, he could lose during a wave election.

He'll definitely survive in 2018 and 2020.

Does anyone think that he might try for higher office yet again, or is it just me?

I very much agree, and I do hope they do it by 2020. That being said, it is understandable why it wasn't done already. FL's strict single subject rule meant that the they couldn't include it in the existing amendments. In fact, they already needed two different amendments to handle legislative + Congressional districts. If you ask me, that is a bit too strict, but it is better than nothing.

If Florida gains the 1 seat it is expected to, yeah Crist's district should be fine, if it gains 2 which is a possibility, it could get changed pretty easily.

it really can't. pinellas is pretty much built out at this point, and the court's rejected water continuity for this district as a fair districts violation in the past. there's really no other shape you can draw here.

the whole map is going to be completely different if 2 new districts are added. Depending on where population growth is you could see pinellas cut in half, or districts changed simply due to necessity. the addition of 1 district (as is expected) I agree with you, that stays, 2 districts (as is possible) whole new ballgame map will look completely different everywhere
