I'm not talking about Muslims. I'm talking about the religion itself.
Not every religious text calls for killing unbelievers.

Several parts of the Old Testament do, in the specific circumstances. Of course, I'm sure most people would agree that, you know, the greatest problem with religion is when people read one thing and decide to make it mesh with their own ideas. Such as, in Genesis 1, when it says "the land brought forth the animals," that's definite proof against evolution, against carbon dating, and a myriad of other things.

No religion (Islam, Christianity, Judaism, Hinduism, etc., etc.) is inherently peaceful or violent. Most have both peaceful and violent passages in their texts. It's all based on how you apply them. Most Muslims apply them peacefully but some apply them violently.
