All of this reading of the tealeaves seems somewhat pointless. Somebody else has already mentioned the US election. Remember the (supposed) huge surge in early voting in many areas that were supposed to guarantee a Clinton victory?

With state elections coming up in Bavaria and the CSU losing 10 points at home, coalition negotiations with the Greens should be far from easy.

I have quite a number of Jewish friends who are really upset about the election results.

Are they also upset about opening the borders to people from the most antisemitic region in the world?

Thanks. The AfD's showing in the border regions of Bavaria of course also illustrates just how big a role the refugee crisis still plays 2 years on even though some commentators would have you believe that all of these challenges have been resolved.
