Overall a FF though I disagree with Planks in Share our Wealth, his dictatorial like power when he was governor of Louisiana, his support and connection with Father Coughlin, among others. But I do remember him fondly for his work in improving the lives of the poor and disconnected in Louisiana along with his fight against the monied establishment in the Senate so that's why I give him a FF and believe the "Kingfish" is a true example of a what a liberal Populist should look like. ((Not a Communist one which I respect even more in a time where communism was much more popular in the mainstream along with socialism (see Minnesota Governor) and this distinction of him can be seen in his Normon Thomas debates in the 30s) Overall I think he would of make a great president if he lessened on his central authority style of governance.

I basically agree. This is a good assessment

The biggest FF one could possibly imagine for a white politician in power in the deep south in the 1930s.

This. Am I a fan? No, not really. But compared to pretty much every other white southern politician at the time he was quite solid.

The good old days when liberals really didn't mind if they had some slightly racist supporters as long as those economic initiatives could be achieved.  Of course, all of those culturally conservative populists from the South (not saying Long, specifically, mind you) would later be deemed "right-wingers" because they were racist, but I digress.

One of the greatest figures in Louisiana politics, if not the greatest. His impact on the lives of the poor and downtrodden in the great state of Louisiana are still felt today.

You had similar people like Claude Pepper or, later, Jim Folsom.

So, besides the genocide, arrests, and oppression, Stalin was good?

Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Even more so because many of them finally became Republicans (and thus - automatically "enemies") of late, because of dominance of social liberalism in Democratic party... Both parties are like a religious sects to me now....

I hate that people use this example, because it is possible for the play Abe Lincoln was killed at to be good despite him being killed at it (think of it this way, if your Father had a heart attack while watching Citizen Kane, that doesn't make Citizen Kane any worse, nor is the play Abe Lincoln was at when he was killed any worse because he was killed while viewing it), while it is not possible for Stalin to be a good person despite the political repressions.

Borderline anti-democratic corrupt demagogue = HP. Today our much beloved Democrats show their true face, as long as muh welfare spending is raised they accept everything (is it me or does this remind me of the GOP establishment reaction to Trump? Both sides do it!).

Why is Ronald Reagan relevant to this conversation?
