Blog post: http://canadianelectionatlas.blogspot.ca/2017/09/newfoundland-and-labrador-municipal.html

The only race to care about of course is for mayor of St. John's. Candidates:

Former mayor and crazy person Andy Wells
Councillor Danny Breen, who is a former PC candidate
Community Renee Sharpe who is the defacto lefty running

I suppose the race for Deputy mayor might be interesting. NDPer Sheilagh O'Leary, who is currently the Ward 4 councillor is running for Deputy Mayor, and will probably win as her opponent is fairly low profile. O'Leary has been running for a lot of different things over the years, and it wouldn't suprise me if she runs to be provincial leader of the party now that Earle McCurdy has resigned.

I'll also watch the race in Ward 3, where Olympic gold medalist Jamie Korab is running. As a curler, I hope he does well (even though he's a Liberal).

I'll also have a passing interest in Labrador City, as they've changed voting systems, having dropped the direct election of the mayor, and instead the mayor will be whoever wins the most votes in the council race.

Any candidates who ran in the 2015 Provincial election get elected municipally?

Not that I know of. Terry French (MHA for Conception Bay South), who resigned in 2014 was acclaimed as mayor of CBS. The new mayor of St. John's ran in a by-election in 2014 and St. John's new Deputy mayor ran in the same by-election for the NDP.

Speaking of the deputy mayor race, Sheilagh O'Leary was easily elected:

O'Leary - 30,689
Worthman - 5,753

Jamie Korab was easily elected in Ward 4 Smiley
