President Bill Clinton decides not to seek re-election due to his unpopularity and Vice President Al Gore easily defeats Jerry Brown and Joe Biden for the Democratic nomination and playing on the idea of moderate southern democrats picks former Senator David Boren as his running mate.

On the Republican side, in a surprise win for the Establishment/moderate factions of the party former Secretary of State and Bush confidante Jim Baker wins the nomination after Senate Leader Bob Dole declines to run. In order to appease conservatives within the party, he selects Senator John Ashcroft as his running mate.

Who wins?

What makes Clinton nor rebound after 1994??? Anyway, if Clinton is unpopular, Baker is favored to win.

The economy does not rebound, Whitewater Trial does damage to his integrity and Republicans under Gingrich and Dole are able to accomplish more/stay united than IRL.

Given the circumstances mentionned, Baker wins in a landslide, with Gore winning Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, New York, Maryland, West Virginia, Minnesota, California, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii; while Baker sweeps the rest of the country to give him a 386-152 EC victory over Gore.
