How long are they planning to stay up? It's already 1AM in DC.

I sincerely hope no one ever calls the Senate the "Greatest deliberative body in history," ever again.

What if I say "The Senate of the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries was the greatest deliberative body in history"

And by the way, if we didn't have reconciliation and all this other "nuclear-lite" stuff, it probably still would be.

Indeed. The way it has been used the past year is like a sick joke.

The usual phrasing is "The world's most/greatest deliberative body", so you'll get your wish.

Everyone else advocating the end of the legislative filibuster.

And then there's me, who wants to restore the judicial filibuster and reconciliation.

Cantwell amendment fails 48-52. Next: Merkley amendment to remove "DeVos provision".

Why are all these Democrats voting against sending it back to committee?
Because they are left wing hacks who don’t want any tax cuts!

You know why you were surprised about Gillespie losing by so much?

Because you don't realize how damn huge income inequality is in America.

This tax bill does not solve income inequality; in fact, it actually makes it even worse.

It's why this bill is so unpopular. Guess what: This bill is literally more unpopular than both Bill Clinton and George H W. Bush's tax raises. How the hell do you make a tax cut more unpopular than a tax raise? You have to be a special kind of incompetent to do that.

Once the republicans realize this trickle down garbage doesn't work (and moderate on basically every issue), I will rejoin their party. Until then, they can go to hell.

Yeah just think of how many trump appointees could have never happened if the democrats didn't allow an Alzheimer's patient to be their majority leader

Seriously though the filibuster should be abolished as there will be so much good stuff that Democrats can accomplish without it and Republicans know Democrats will benefit the most from its abolition.

Any college that says no to federal funding can get this bonus.

It would almost certainly be undone a few years later though.

They know it doesn't work.

This was all about pleasing their donors, so they can get their money for next year's mid-terms. Of course, this won't save them and they will lose the house.

Pretty sure there are other colleges who don't take federal funding, but out of them the bonus only goes to Hillsdale.

Patrick Henry in Virginia also gets the tax credit.

I doubt it

It is hard to repeal social programs/benefits once the public gets their hands on them.

By the time the economic effects of this bill are felt, the Democrats will have already won the House, and will be promptly blamed for the inevitable financial downturn. It's all in the plan.

I think it's refusal of federal funding and accreditation, I'm sure there are plenty of for profit online "universities" that don't receive federal funding

Which for me is actually sort of the problem, because I primarily want Democrats moving on social issues. I care about deficit.
